How long does Chlamydia take to develop?

My friend has just found out that her boyfriend has been cheating on her, so she went to the GUM clinic to get checked out. They told her that she may have something but would need to wait a week to find out for sure (apparently thay need to let the bacteria grow for a week ??!!). She had a one night stand at christmas (before she got with her b/f) and is worried she may have got it from there. But because she used a condom, I dont think that is the case.

If it was from the one night stand then surely it would be fully developed by now? (I know condoms only reduce the risk of STD infection).
