I have just discovered a little skin tag under my right eye. What causes these and how can I get rid of it. Will it just disappear or is it there for good?

i once had one on my chin and my doctor told me to tie string on it which i did, just had to remember to take it off before i went out and put string on as soon as i got home, it shrivelled up and fell after after 6 days, so if theres enough of it to get a good hold and you can see what you're doing try it, it worked for me. dont know what causes them.
My friend at work had one on her thigh, it got infected and she had it removed by her doctor, they dont usualy get infected but if your worried about it go to your GP
My mate went to the doctor with some and the doctor told her to tie string round them and they fall off. You don't have to leave the string on for long coz it stops the blood flow and they die then in a couple of days they are gone. Problem solved.
I'd go to the doctor with this one as it's right near the eye and if the tag were to get infected by trying to get rid of it yourself, it could be nasty. I've had them in my armpits and when I've shaved under my arms I've completely forgotten they were there and accidentally shaved them off. Sounds painful, but I didn't even know I'd done it!

Thanks for your answers. It's fairly small, not really big enough to get a bit of string around but I keep rubbing it by accident. Maybe I'll take a visit to my GP and see if she suggests anything or if I should just leave it. thanks again.

Hi milly

I am glad you asked this as I have one on my thigh. I googled it and they told me it was part of getting old. Last time I use google, me thinks ;o)

Glad to hear you are keeping busy ~ and it's lovely to see you!

Getting old! oh dear, I'm only 22. Please don't tell me the menopause is about to kick in. :o)

Glad to see you too Pippa!
try a piece of cotton or fishing line to tie round them dont cut them off like my son did with the nail clippers

Oh definately milly..look out for those wrinkles a-comin..really over the hill, eh? LOL.

Luckily I threw out a medical encyclopedia I had years ago..I have had everything from meningitis to leukaemia. Those books are bad for your health!

ha ha, I agree Pippa. When I was in hospital once the nurse told me I was tacicardic (even though I felt fine). I think she only said it so I didn't go out for a fag but from the minute she said that I was so over dramatic about how 'terrible' I was feeling. Since then it's become a joke about which terminal illness I'm suffering from this week. Keep those self diagnoses books away from me!!!

Hi milly143. I had a few small skin tags around my neck some time ago that weren't obtrusive but they aggravated me just by being there. My GP removed them for me and it was a very quick and painless procedure. They rarely disappear of their own accord. As yours is below your eye where one's skin is delicate and a bit more sensitive I would advise you to consult your GP who will see that it is removed safely.

They can be frozen off by the doctor using liquid nitrogen, the same as is used for warts. Little ones can be easily snipped off with nailclippers.
