I've been single for a couple of years now, had the odd couple of one night stands, but have recently started getting into a relationship again. The problem is that I just can't sleep when she's in the bed next to me and I'm thinking it's because I've gone so long sleeping on my own. Has anyone got any tips for overcoming this as 3-4 hours sleep a night is beginning to take its toll now!

you could always go for the "friends" approach that ross told chandler where you "hug & roll"!!

Well, s e x before you go to sleep could work.

I slept on my own for years before I got married. Just didn't like people in my bed when I was trying to sleep. I soon got used to it, and now I can't sleep without my hubby being there. You'll get used to it eventually.

tops and tails :-) thats way you may forget she's actually next to you :-)
I still prefer sleeping on my own, if you think about it, double beds are a silly idea if you just want to sleep! I can't bear my hubby rolling too near me when im trying to sleep because i feel claustrophobic and it immediately wakes me up.Its a difficult one when its a new relationship though, unlike you, i can just shove my hubby over. Maybe you might get used to it other than that, God knows. can't she go home a few nights per week so you can catch up!

best thing we ever done was to get a queen size bed! you get your own space worked for us!

i find it really hard sleeping next to anyone!...even my 8 yr old son, let alone my 2 yr old...anyway....a 6ft x 6ft 6" Zip and Link bed works wonders...2 singles zipped together...i couldnt sleep without it! there is no way i could sleep with somebody else in the bed if it was just a normal double bed.

ive been single for far too long too now and I'd give anything to sleep with or next to someone. Im such a fussy person in terms of wanting to find the right woman, I can't do one night stands. Im 26 and have never had sex out of a relationship, not to say the thought aint there...but that's me.

Have you ever thought that perhaps its a subconscious thing about being 'personal' like perhaps you're afraid to snore, fart, scratch your ass thing?? that you'd rather stay awake and be able to control yourself rather than be asleep and have it out of your control so to speak - do u see where Im heading with this. Perhaps you are just not comfortable yet to be 'you' even if out of politeness about not putting her off.

I think you're probably right to an extent Jason1980, but I think that there is also an element of excitement to it. Sharing a bed with a beautiful girl stops me from feeling relaxed due to excitement as much as it does through any self-consciousness.

Doglady - I wish I was one of those blokes who go to sleep straight away. I always end up feeling really energized rather than sleepy!

Either way - I think that maybe just getting used to it will be the only way forward. The benefits outweigh the negatives after all, unless you're my boss of course.

When I first met my husband, he told me, that he slept better without me in the bed.

Now, five years on, he tells me he sleeps badly when I am not there...
