i no this may have been asked before. but i really want to start losing a bit of weight does anybody no of any good diet plans and excercise regimes. or do you no of a website that provides this for free.

Yes. Get rid of all full length mirrors in your house, as well as weighing scales and fashion/gossip magazines. After a couple of months you won't even think about your weight.
I have been dieting all my life Sam -im not huge by any means -a very curvy size 14 - but like a lot of women I wuld like to lose a bit.After trying and failing every year,and even asking on AB about crash diets,I have decided that I am just going to make small,permanent changes like skimmed milk instead of semi ,cutting fat off meat,lowest fat mayo possible etc,whilst eating lots of veg,fruit and walking more.Daft things like going to supermarket and parking as far away from doors as poss so you walk a bit more.And if I fancy something then I eat it and dont beat myself up about it.Hopefully this way I will lose weight slowly but keep it off.Good luck.xx

The diet 'industry' is massive (sorry!) in this country, but it comes down to two simple facts.

Hi! I can honestly recommend Slimming World as a group which gives support without the rigid rules of other clubs. Basically if you stick to the plan/s you will lose weight and the plan is relatively simple and based on being good perhaps 80% of the time and allowing yourself to have what you want 20%.You dont need to deny yourself anything but you do l;earn what does the damage! There is no torture chamber if you havent had a loss you are just made to realise that its up to you really and you see others in the group slowly disappearing in front of you!! That in itself is an encouragement.


By the way I am just a member and not anything to so with Sl/World officially.

1. You need to burn off more calories than you take in.


2. This will not be enjoyable or fun.


So, to loose weight, and keep it off, you need to adjust your diet. Cut out all the fattening stuff, and eat a proper healthy diet. Exercise - walking is excellent, and free, and with the nice weather, shouldn't be a chore. Walk briskly for half an hour morning and evening, enough to leave you breathing heavily, but not gasping, or getting stitch.


Allow yourself a treat at the weekend - chocolate or sweet,s what ever you rreally like. Just on one day.


And that's it!


Stick to that regime, and you will see the weight come off slowly, replaced by nice furm tummy muscles. It won't happen overnight, but if you stick to it, you will loose the weight, and it will stay off..

I'm doing the Slimming World diet which is fantasctic as it's so easy to understand and you don't have to cut anything out completely, just cut down on certain things. Plus they list plenty of food items that you could eat literraly all day if you wanted to. On top of that I've taken up regular exercise, just walking/jogging which of course is completely free and has really made a difference. I try to do about an hour/6miles every day but you don't have to do so much. Oh and lots of water too!

It might not be everybody's cup of tea, but I love jogging, cycling and walking, especially when the weather is as beautiful as it is at the moment.


I also enjoy walking up stairs (my limit generally is four floors, though) and looking pityingly at anybody getting into the lift to get to the second floor.

I love playing Squash, and occassionally I even go swimming. I find that extremely boring, while I am doing it, but afterwards my skin feels all tingly and fresh, and I know it was worth it...


Very good point Bohne. After all, $ex burns off calories and that's seldom boring. I think that's the only reason I'm slim.

hi stynalism. I've recently started a diet for my IBS. It's not meant for weight loss, but it's really working that way! The main idea is that you must eat soluble fibre at every meal (rice, pasta, breads - YES!) and try to avoid red meat and anything with fat or grease in it. I've cut out dairy and now snack regularly on caramel flavoured rice cakes (0.6grams of fat per 5 cakes, wheee!). I'm less bloated and my tummy is flatter, and it's a really easy deit to stick to as it's basically a lifestyle change and you can still eat foods that you like (unless you love cheese and steak ;) )

The answer is always the same: Expend more energy than you take in: either reduce food intake or take more exercise... preferably both.


If you've not taken exercise in a long time consider getting a check up before starting.


Easy things to do: get off the bus one stop early and/or walk to the next stop before getting on; walk to the shops, don't drive (help keep a varied shopping environment by supporting small shopkeepers being squeezed out by Tesco); stop taking sugar in tea/coffee - better, switch to water; eat at least 5 portions of fruit/veg per day.


STOP eating prepared/packaged food and take-aways - always higher in salt, sugar and fat than home cooked. Cut down on salt in cooking; remove fat from meat before eating, never eat chicken skin/pork crackling.


Keep sticks of carrot, celery etc to snack on. If you really want chocolate, have some - but as a rare treat not a daily habit.


Get friends (the ABers' Diet Club?) to join you - it's easier when giving/given support.


Set a goal - to drop a bikini size by end-August, say, or to run the next local 5k or 10k or half marathon - have a real purpose.


If you smoke, STOP - put the money in a jar and after a year buy a great holiday. Cut out chocolate and crisps - put the money in a jar as above.


Keep a really honest food/drink diary for a week - once you now what and when you eat/drink you can change.


Don't eat too late at night - better to wake hungry. Never miss breakfast.


I could go on - the short answer is use common sense. Don't be an exercise or diet bore, just make gradual changes that you can keep and that way you will avoid the dieter's perennial experience, the yo-yo.

Have a look at Tesco's e-diets, on line. There's a huge choice of diets and meals, and you can print out a week's menus and a shopping list, which doesn't have to be Tesco's food. There are exercise plans to suit everyone, a chat room, plenty of other features. Yes, it costs, but less than most slimming clubs. I found it terrific. Youi should find a link at www.tesco.com

weightwatchers.co.uk is fabulous. Foods are turned into a currency... ie you have a total for the day/week/month - therefore if you want to meet up with friends for a meal - you can organise youself so that you can 'afford' the meal out. The menus are brill, the mindset is sensible, you won't be hungry and you'll enjoy the challenge... (I lost a stone, sensibly losing 1llb to 2llb per week) good luck - xxx
