i know what ectomy means but what about the hyster bit?

Hyster or Hystero is from the Greek Hystera denoting the womb plus the Greek Ektome ..a cutting out.
Hyster means 'womb' in Greek

hysteria comes from the same word. It was thought it was purely a woman's illness caused by irregular blood supply from the womb to the brain. We know better now... don't we?
