I am obessessive about straightening my hair - I use a hairdryer and straighteners on my hair every day which surely cant be good for it. I was considering chemically straightening my hair since I am already doing enough damage to it at the moment. Would this be a good idea?

If you use a heat protector (Charles Worthington takeaways does one) and ceramic straighteners you should be ok. What kind of straighteners do you use? I'm against permanent straightening as a girl i knew had it done once and it burnt her scalp and scarred her for life. However I have heard of the new Yuko system for permanent straightening. Don't know much about it except that the price depends on the length of your hair and it's about 250 for shoulder length hair,
Alice- I also have to blowdry and straighten my hair everyday unless I wewant to look like a bush! I really wouldnt want to chemically straighten my hair.. its alot of money for a big risk in my opinion. Just stick to you straightners, and although this CAN dry out your hair, making it frizzy and/or brittle.... like 5029 said as long as you use a treatment it's fine. I use John Friedas Hair Serum. You just run a small amount through your hair while still wet, and then style as usual. It really does leave it looking and feeling smooth and shiny (do I sound like an advert here?? :oD) It is quite expensive at 6 a bottle, but it lasts ages. Hope ive helped!
There seems to be a few fans of straight hair here, myself included. Ive been blowdrying and straightening my shoulder-length highlighted hair for over 3 years and according to my hairdresser theres been no damage to my hair. The only downside is that ive burnt my forehead a few times (this morning was one) when ive been a bit sleepy and careless! A friend of mine has had her hair chemically straightened with great results and her hair looks glossy and shiny with no frizz at all. I would certainly try this myself but because my hairs colour treated I cant have it done. Id go ahead with it - im sure it will look great and save all those tortuous hours with a dead arm pulling those straighteners through your hair. good luck!
I once tried a chemical straightener and it was awful. As moonhead says try John Frieda's Frizz Ease .. it is brilliant. After all these years I have finally found something that works!!!
