nail biting 13 year old

How can I get my daughter to stop biting her nails? She is 13 and a half and she has Down's syndrome.

I used to bite my nails until I bought a nail biting solver from the avon catalogue. It was only a few pounds - it looks like a nail varnish but it is just liquid and dries instantly. It tastes disgusting - it stopped my habit within about an hour! Perhaps you could try getting hold of one.

You can get 'nail bite' from the chemists, and if its a good one, they'll ask you questions on your daughters condition, and give you a suitable one. I have a handicapped daughter, who wouldn't stop chewing her sleeve cuffs, and its what I did, it worked, just watch her face the first time she tastes it. Good luck.

My nanna stopped me biting my nails when I was 21. she bought the most disgusting colour of nail polish and painted my nails with with them. When I bit my nails the polish would chip and look disgusting so I stopped biting, when they got to a certain length, she treated me to have a proper manicure, I've never bit them since!

I have always bitten my nails since i was a little girl,over 30 years,i have never had nails then 4 weeks ago a friend done me some french manicure falsies,they stayed on for two weeks before they had to come off,then i saw that i had some white tips on my own nails,after all these years i am now proudly showing off my OWN nails,those tips are getting longer and i am now buying some french manicure varnish to show them off nicely,funny thing is after all those years biting ,just two weeks have changed everything and the thought of biting them now turns my stomach.If i can do it believe me ANYONE can do it.

The lady that does my acrylic nails says she gets a lot of parents bringing their daughters in because once you get the false ones done it shows you how nice yours could look, if you see what i mean.. Try the nasty tasting stuff but if that doesnt work i would try taking her to get them done, its a treat and might discourage her in future.

I just want to add i'm 32 and still biting, absolutely nothing can stop me! When i was 13 i know i had pressure to stop, my mum and grandma were always on at how it would look in later life. Can't say its caused me any bother whatsover!!
