Car accident...

I had a bad car accident on Monday, where I hit the central reservation of the M1 head-on at 70mph (lorry cut me up). Luckily I came out without a scatch- although I have whiplash in my back and neck now. Since yesterday I have also been in agony with my legs. I have pain all down the front of both of them and it's very strange but it sometimes feels like I've got a cold, wet patch in different places on them. When I touch them though, they're warm and dry!!

Obviously shaken up, but has anyone heard of this before? Thanks everyone

Sounds like a belated shock reaction to me.You often see people shivering due to trauma but their temperature is in fact normal but they think they are freezing (teeth chattering etc).

However,if you are concerned, which you obviously are I would see my GP.The pain does sound like whiplash but I wouldnt take any chances and I think you need your mind put at ease more than anything.

Good Luck - let us know how you get onx

Make sure you got to docs and get a doctors note as if this causes you any pain in the future and long time off work you wont be able to claim any money back unless you have proof you went to docs. Make note in a diary of what pain you are in each day. Sounds to me you're very lucky thank god :-)
Get yourself down to A&E to get checked over as you could have something more serious wrong. As forgetmenot says you could need evidence if you needed to claim compensation etc. later on. It could be nothing but I would really get yourself checked over.

You poor thing!! must have been terrifying.

I would get back to the doctors or hospital straight away.

You could easily have twisted your pelvis or spine and this could be putting pressure on the nerves and restricting circulation. Your doctor or hospital should x ray you, if they say all is clear and they don't have any answers for you, I would advise going to a chiropractor or physiotherapist.

Hope you feel better x

Whilst Im no medical expert, I used to work in personal injury and so have come across various injuries, mainly caused by RTAs. It sounds like you could have some damage to your sciatic nerve (situated in the lower spine region). Go and see your GP who can investigate further and perhaps refer you to a chiropractitioner. Assuming liability will not be in dispute, call teh third party's insurers and ask if they will pay for a course of chiro treatement (if this is recommended by your GP). Many motor insurers will pay these costs up front as it is widely recognised that getting chiro (or physio) treatment early on after an injury results in speedier and more full recovery (which benefits the third party insurer as they end up paying out less in compensation if a claimant recovers more quickly). Good luck.

p s - what car were you driving? I'd buy the same again if I were you!!

My friend walked away from a bad car accident in a passat. It was only the car that saved him.

P.S. as someone has already mentioned, do keep a 'pain' diary, noting down how you feel every day, including how you feel when you do certain activities, whether it be showering/dressing/shopping/working etc. This will be of great benefit if you do decide to make a claim for damages for your injuries and consequential losses. Also, keep a note and receipts relating to your out-of-pocket expenses such as painkillers, therapeutic aids, costs of travelling to and from doctors etc etc.

With an accident like that, the police must have taken details. If you told them at the time that you were unhurt, now tell them that you have an injury. If you do need to make a claim, it will help if the injury is in the police report (of which the insurance companies and lawyers will get a copy).

Thanks all of you so much for your kind words and advice. I think I will definitely start a diary about the pain, etc.

I went back to the doctor and explained to him about my legs, and he has pretty much said it's the same as what you had all told me- nerve damage. I didn't ask him whether it might be something permanent though- bit all over the place.

On another note, does anyone have anyone they could recommend for claiming for my injuries? I have had companies phoning me already but I'm not sure who is trustworthy.

Thanks again all of you, you're so sweet to help.
