I have a patch on the back of my head which is causing me great misery. I have tried anti dandruff shampoos, ointments and olive oli but it won't shift. It's highly embarrassing and very annoying.

Please help me find a remedy!!

Hi, I had the same on the back of my head along my hair line.. The patch sometimes was just dry and itchy and sometimes I got small spots like a heat rash. The duty nurse at our local surgery said it looked like a fungal infection and prescribed Betnovate scalp lotion and recommended Head and Shoulders (as dandruff is also fungal) The Betnovate worked a treat. The nurse said that it was made worse by moisture.

I had put off a visit to the surgery because it seemed trivial, but I was glad I went.

hi sssg4, if any help had similar problems, was recommended T/GEL by neutrogena its a therapeutic shampoo for scalp psoriasis, seborrhoeic dermatitis {dry, itching scalp} & dandruff, it smells like tar but don't let this put you off i swear by it

I had a small patch of dry skin on my scalp recently and used some Hc45 cream on it (a hydrocortisone cream), as I had some lying around, and it cleared it up within three days. Hc45 is available over the counter and will help where the problem is caused by an allergic reaction or dermatitis (i.e. it won't help if you do have a fungal infection as gessoo suggests).

same problem for me..i had (i later found out) an allergic reaction to the lime in old plaster as i was decorating..i was given a steriod lotion by doc and told to take anti histamine.
Do not use head and shoulders it's the worst thing ever, ask any hairdresser.A good coal tar shampoo like Polytar (Boots sell it) is normally very good for dry scalp and dandruff etc.You should see your gp or a registered trichologist so they can have a proper look.Start with the cheaper and easier Polytar option and see how it goes. Also make sure you rinse out your shampoo and conditioner thoroughly. Also you can get a little plastic scalp massager from a hairdressing suppliers, they are small and round. They will loosen any dry flakes and stimulate your scalp.Good luck!
It might be psoriasis. Ask your doc about Diprosalic scalp application. Clears it in a few days.

Go with laurence2, T Gel is the quickest relief I have had, but do not use all the time, use it say 3 times and then now and again.
