I'm guessing but I would imagine that in the same way two eyes gives you stereoscopic vision, two ears allows you to spacially judge where a sound is from, maybe two nostils allows you to tell where a smell is from? Certainly worked for those Bisto kids, didn't it? (Mind you, they may just have been following the visible trail of Bisto vapour...) However, another reason is that it is simply more sensible to have a spare incase one is damaged.

Well, I think I'd rather have two hearts instead of two nostrils. Make more sense really, wouldn't it?!!
