Does anyone know if it is O.K. to have 3 godparents of the same sex, or does it have to be 2 male and 1 female or vica versa, also any idea how much it costs?

Many thanks

Hi The person to ask would be the priest/Vicar at the church where you are having the child christened.
As far as I am aware, you can have as many godparents as you like and in whatever ratio of M/F as desired. There is no 'Godparent' charge!!!

As the vicar in our church put it, 'it's free to join'. I think there may be a charge if you have a private christening outside of the normal church service (or a donation is suggested), but as Curious says it can be church specific.

Also there were no restrictions of number or type of godparents, although at least one had to be confirmed. Best to check with your church.

lily_b I disagree. None of my son's godparents are confirmed. He has two godmothers and one godfather. All our vicar was concerned about was that firstly they love my son as their own and secondly they will lead him the right way (more by morals than regimented religion). I am an Anglican Christian but none of his godparents are practicing - in fact one is Agnostic but as far as our Church is concerned a good, honest life is far more important than sitting there on a Sunday and doing the opposite for the other 6 days (Vicar's words not mine). Oh and he's well into his 70s so he's not one of your new age happy clappy vicars - just in case anyone was wondering.
sorry cazdee missed the second part out, my son's Christening was completely free. We had it on a Sunday morning as part of the service and everyone was absolutely lovely. The vicar said that as far as donations go the swell on a Christening service collection from regulars alone meant that he would never like to ask for any donation (I did put a tenner in tho) and all our guests donated too.

nfn, as I said in my post, it is best to check with the church.

The CofE church my children were christened in did insist on at least one godparent being confirmed. This may not be the case with other churches or faiths.
