I'm sorry but I have to get this off my chest. Wearing your hair on top of your head in a scrunchy does not look good on anyone. There, I've said it.

Glad you got that off your chest LOL.

That girl on Eastenders - the one who appeared from France - she's making a pretty good job of it!

Hi Dak - you OK?

What, not even if you're wearing a shell suit?

I heartily agree. They should be against the law.

have you seen that sex and the city episode with the scunchie in Berger's book. i think that says it all. scunchies are awful. what annoys me even more is when northerners call them bobbles (this is by no means a dig at northerns who are lovely people- particuarly the men who have very sexy accents)

i can think of something worse though - those thick alice bands covered in velour/velvet. they are truely horrendous. the fashion police should lock them up and throw away the key.

Question Author
Andy, I'm fairly sure she doesn't wear a scrunchy. I've felt like this for some time, but what prompted my outburst was a girl who's just walked past my offices, trendy clothes, good figure, and then this ridiculous hairstyle with one lanky bit pulled down across one eye. It just screams chav.

i think andy might be right about the enders gal. she does wear scunchies!!! but she is chav with a capital 'C'!!!

thanks for your outburst i completely agree. one thing worse than a scunchie is a burberry scunchie. now that is sad....

I call them bobbles!! I'm offended now!! sob sob sob!!!
I think a scrunchie describes the kind of bobble that is made mostly of material. There was an interesting incident in our house once when I said "I need a bobble" and my boyfriend said "do you mean a scrunchie?". I did and stood corrected. I am a failure as a woman.

Do scrunchies still exist???!! I've not worn one since i was about 14. Just boring old hairbands for me these days.

Bobbles were different again, they were the ones with the 2 plastic shapes on either end that never used to stay in my hair.

BTW - I'm from the south coast and used both these words... And if my boyfriend knew more about my hiar accessories than I, I'd be a little disturbed! Even more so if he owned more of them than I did! :o)

I dont like scrunchies and i call them bobbles (the ones the come in MANY colours and have that lil piece of metal holding the 2 ends together)

But if they aren't called scrunchies or bobbles, what are they called?

hair bands!
ah yes, thats the word.

I saw a women RECENTLY wearing a fergie bow. Now that is a dubious hair adornment.

I have to say I have been known to wear a bobbles: elastic with two plastic 'bobbles'. I don't wear scrunchies and never have as my hair is too slippery and they fall out. I mostly wear hair bands, or as we say in this house, elastics. Mostly I favour a crocodile clip as I only wear my hair up for cas or on the off day if I haven't washed it. (gross I know, but hey sometimes it happens.)

My two and 4 year olds wear ribbons and elastics, but I'm guessing that's ok on a toddler. The ribbons match their clothes.

The only exception I've seen is a friend who has very beautiful, dark, curly hair, very long and she tends to wear a scrunchy loose at the nape of her neck with copious, very natural tendrills. she manages to get away with anything actually; one of those irritating people....!

I agree the 'pineapple' top of the head look normally with bad perm is not a good look on anyone. Room 101 with that one I think.
