Just heard a good program by Dr Mike Mosely, saying how helpful tumeric can be in cooking etc.  Can anyone confirm - or deny - that T1 diabetics can take tumeric?  Im sure I read somewhere you cant.  Many thanks.

"Antidiabetic medicines

Turmeric or curcumin might reduce blood glucose and increase the risk of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar).

If a person has diabetes or takes herbal supplements that could reduce blood glucose levels, advise them to let their healthcare professional (e.g. doctor, nurse or pharmacist) know that they intend to take turmeric or curcumin before they start."

There is some information at the end of this extensive article. It can interact with some medications.

I'd say it's best to ask your doctor.

If you are going to buy some, it's called "turmeric" (with an 'r' after the 'u').

I wouldn't worry about eating curries and other foods that include some turmeric but I wouldn't take it as a supplement if I were T1 diabetic
