Well I started Amoxcillin Thursday afternoon, 500mg three times a day. I am still coughing a lot and still have dark yellow mucus, antibiotics don’t seem to have made it any better. Just feel,so tired and headachy now. No temperature, not Covid. Any suggestions? Meant to be going abroad in a few days, wondering whether to cancel as I don’t fancy having a racking throaty cough with a tissue held up to my mouth all week …. Yuk

Cancel your holiday.
Take Ibuprofen (if you can) or paracetamol and sit this infection out in the UK.
It should settle by the weekend, if not, then contact your GP again.

Thanks Sqad, will do. I can take both Ibuprofen and Paracetamol,,how much should I take, and which would be best?
400mg of ibuprofen 3 times a day (with food) or 1g of paracetamol 4 times a day (no more than 4g in a day, and dont take anything else with paracetamol in at the same time). You can stagger them so you are covered, but as ibuprofen nominally lasts longer than parats, i would take that one before bed

Thank you! I don’t want antibiotics unnecessarily.
Sorry smurfy....fell asleep but bednobs has answered perfectly.
Gosh would you really cancel your holiday? A cruise isn't it? Obviously if you really don't feel well enough you shouldn't go but getting your money back will not be easy. You will be asked for doctor's letters etc etc if you claim via insurance.

Would be awkward on the cruise, coughing and bringing up stuff into hankies all day …. Yuk! Sorry hope I haven’t put you all off your dinner…. would it be difficult to get money back thru insurance? Is it easy to get a doctor’s letter?
You can stay out of other peoples way on a cruise, Smurfy. Please don't cancel your holiday. That salt sea air may do you some good.
other people's.^
You have to pay for a doctor's letter but more to the point they have to confirm you really are too ill to travel. Only saying because I had to do it once and it was a helluva palaver with lots of in depth forms and questions from the insurance company.
That aside wouldn't you be devastated (are you travelling alone?) or were you not that keen on going anyway?
You could request a different antibiotic from gp stay out of busy areas until you feel better ?
