I had a friend over today, having seen nobody over Christmas. Her whole family Took lateral flow tests before getting together over Christmas. However, when she got home from seeing me, she tested positive. I was just wondering what the likelihood is that I have caught it from her, bearing in mind she was technically negative when we were together? Has anybody else been in the situation?

No, she caught it from her girlfriend. The girlfriend phoned whilst she was at mine to say she had just tested positive.
Gf had caught it at work on 24th, had a sore throat on Boxing Day evening and tested positive positive today. She had a negative pcr arrived today as well! This strain comes on very fast. I have seen nobody so she didn’t catch it from me.
My neighbour's got it again. She had it just after 1st lock down and was in bed for a week.
Luckily, she's been triple jabbed and should be ok.

Pixie374 out of interest what are you symptoms? Seems like the lateral flow tests don’t really help us much.
Headache, sore, scratchy throats, general aching. We ran out of LFTs and they are not available to order, so should get pcr through soon. Sister has a bit of a temperature too. Slightly breathless as well.
They say not to use those with symptoms anyway. But, as there seems to be a shortage, a pcr might be better.
I know Scarlett has been around long enough to separate the wheat from the chaff but when someone is concerned and asks a sensible question it'd be good to get sensible answers.
Some of these posts would send a newbie far away from the site.
Some need to stop searching the site for posts just to be controversial on.
Scarlett, those are the same symptoms our other "positive" friends described. So, will wait and see.

Yes, does sound like omicron which is definitely the one to get! Don’t worry I just scroll past any unhelpful answers!
Oh I know well that you'd do that, Scarlett.... :-)

Just sad that folk looking in for the first time are being put off by those who add nothing to the site and will miss the good advice and help you can get here.
I agree G, if any new abers want information about covid AB most likely be a site to get information .
Hmmmm...just change your "information" to "sharing the experiences of others" and you'd be right, Anne.
Friend of mine was recently really ill.
Took 3 home tests and eventually went for a centre test
(Sorry but I always get lateral flow & pcr tests mxed up)
Turns out that she had covid, which the home tests failed to pick up on.
So what good are the home tests if they failed 3 times?

(As some of you may have gathered, Im not a covid denier)
there right much more than there wrong but its now clearer they dont always pick up posatives when people have symtoms,,, so best for those without symptoms as a first check.... and those who want to use them to get into venues. A PCR is mor elikely to be right
As good as the user, Nailit. Most do it properly. Your friend possibly didn't?
hi scarlett - its by no means certain. My daughter tested positive by PCR last tuesday, and has been coughing a sneezing like a normal cold and is now negative. she is 9, so distancing from her is not possible and we havent tried . Both my husband and me have remained symptom free and neg LFTs despite the hygeine of a 9yo, bedtime stories in the same bed, cuddles and so on for a week
If a home test is 90% reliable on average the chances of it being wrong 3 times running is 1 in a 1000 or 1000 ina million. So if a million people do one every week then 1000 could be wrong... your mate could just be one of those unlucky ones
