Well have started the ball rolling - how far it will go I don't know. But I have visited an upholsterer and showed him the photo of what I wanted - he says he could give me what I basically wanted ie (the puffy arms) and we'll see about the rest as in design in photo - which I'm not fussed about.. foam filled cushions and whatever else.

I got a lovely feeling from him (not personally) LOL but a nice man. He is coming next week to sorta measure up the room. So here goes.

I also said if and when we agree - how long would it take to make and he said 8 weeks so I'm pleased with that. Hope I do like what I'm doing.

So do I , Jenny.

Having a bespoke suite made is very 'posh' and must be very expensive. Good luck with it.
Upholsterers don't make suites do they? Are you having your old one re upholstered then?

Tailor made a nd upholsteres
Tailors don't make furniture they make clothes
^^who's trying to be obtuse/too clever?
All we can do is hope.
It's a costly solution JJ but at least you'll get precisely what you want.
is it expensive to get a sofa made?
You need to be very sure you know what you are buying, JJ. What will the frame be made of? What sort of covering? How long will he guarantee it for?
I had a suite made, having tried in vain to find one that I liked and fitted. It was worth every penny, and surprizingly not that expensive. I wanted one that was higher that I felt I sat on rather than sunk in, and could get up and down easily. Also had the cushions you sit on made firmer than the ones against your back. I have no regrets, best of luck with your new suite.

thank you Calda - to be perfectly honest the price surprised me very much as I have viewed quite horrible suites in furniture shops more pricier.

"it is a costly solution" - when he told me the price I did expect more - so we will see.

What is he making the frame with, JJ? That's the most important part of the suite
i think expensive things are sometimes worth the cost, especially considering 1) you should get exactly what you want 2) you have said itll be your last sofa band 3) you were willing to pay for transpport from scotland on top of the cost of the sofa
Question Author
well Barry - he did bring me into the "work room" and the frame/wood looked pretty good, I will ask him when he comes next week. He has already told me the cushions to sit on will be foam filled and the arms will be fibre which I am happy with.

Many years ago I wandered into a furniture workshop - a very big one and there was nobody about - ie in the next room. I couldn't believe that the stuffing was being made with newspaper.
I've known suites to be made with old pallets, JJ, and stuff with old stuffing from worn-out suites.
Question Author
that's right Bed - I was actually going to fly to Scotland -

Regarding the price - I haven't been out dining and wining for over 2 years or holidaying for 12 years - so that'll pay for it.
How many suites have you bought in the last few years, JJ? At least, I think
Question Author
barry at least what?
Question Author
the suite that I loved - I had for 10 years. All was wrong was the seat I sat on the settee had sunk - had I have known I genuine didn't know - but I could have got it re-sprung. Then I have this one I think about 4 years but never liked it.

But in the 30 years being here and having some second hand suites - I would say about say 6 - oh two of those were new. Altogether about 4 new - God - have lost count now LOL
Spend your money and enjoy it jj. As you say, you’ve saved a lot of money over the past few months, so treat yourself. xxx
