I've got a small swelling on my right cheek from the gland behind my ear , a little painful when I'm eating , a feeling of neuralgia, this is from Satur , today I phoned my GP AT 10am, got a call back from a nurse practitioner who asked me a few questions and told me to carry on taking Paracetamol, then a half an hour later another call saying I'd best go in tomorrow for her to look in my ear, fair enough but where's my doctor gone :0(

Nothing at all woof, just was wondering where the GPs have gone, that's all
What about Hospital Consultants, had an appointment LAST February for treatment for a dislocated ankle cancelled, given a date in December for a Telephone Consultation, cancelled again until next March. How can they diagnose Dislocations etc.by Telephone? The least I will need is another X-Ray.
"What have you got against being seen by a nurse"? Nurses are not trained to diagnose. Not to the extend to the extent that a Doctor is.
you've been walking on a dislocated ankle since february??
Yes,bednobs,it is not very nice, can only go out with crutches.
" I don`t know why GPs are not back at work though."

Strong union.
that is dreadful, why didnt they put itback in when you dislocated it?
can I ask how you dislocated it?
Unsurename......why not give us the whole story?
Things are changing! These nurses are very qualified & pharmacists now deal with alot of minor ailments too!

UTIs etc ....

Ive found a real shift since covid and its hard to change mindsets that alot of people dont need a face to face appt now - no clinical reason!

Not meaning you Bobbi - i see you said happy with video but ive had SO MANY folk beyond upset and they didnt need a physical appointment!

Some treat consultant apps like an actual day out & go for lunch after LOL!

Would you prefer a GP vs a Nurse?

Lots do as they think “just a nurse”

Different scenario...
Personally i have a degree, post grad cert, currently on masters course and I am a prescriber so I can prescribe what a GP can... but i know fine well patients and even Docs think “just a nurse”

We are so much more
Now xxx
237SJ.... you are incorrect- some nurses are :0)
Yes dear. :-)
You have the Whole story,sqad.!!
bednobs,it was put back at the time but incorrectly.
woofgang,uneven kerbstone.

Tinks I'm very happy with what nurses do and have no objection to either a video link or a trip to the medical centre to see one, I guess its curiosity to wander where the many GPS are although I did get the feeling the nurse had spoken to a one ( GP) for her then to ring me back ?
If it was put back in even if incorrectly then you were diagnosed face to face then and not telephone?
Have you been back to GP or Contacted Consultants sec to explain your situation? X

Bobbi i have wondered too from a work point of view its been difficult to manage as GP not as accessable.... then a close friend is an advanced nurse at a GP and she wasnt taking too kindly to the opinions that GPs shut up shop! Sadly some did! For me in the cancer service it was difficult!!! X

OMG I bet it was
Only as a knee jerk at first Bobbi it kind of evened out! Ive had to make a few calls but not as many now thankfully!!

237SJ another wee point to note MANY times a month, GPs contact ME a nurse to ask what to prescribe. It makes me chuckle how people are all “3 bags full doctor”.. ... would rather have an update from a lovely wee Doc, one week out of Uni vs a Nurse with multiple years of experience ;0>

Gone are the days we are just bum wipers xx

I admire all those in the NHS from the cleaners to the Consultants, I couldn't do their jobs x
