I am looking to hire a car from this Friday (2nd November) until Sunday 4th. However, everywhere seems to be shut on a Sunday and because I am at work on Monday I can not return the car until Monday evening, which means I will have to pay an extra day.

I will also be looking to hire a car from 22nd Dec until 3rd January and am wondering whether I can find a cheap deal for the whole month (and a bit).

I live in Kent and am hoping to be able to find somewhere in Maidstone.

If anyone has any advice on cheap deals or places which can pick up and deliver then that would be fantastic.

I have been let down on a cruise which, instead of letting me off at Plymouth near my home, is now calling at Dover. I have found Hertz in Dover will do a one way hire (Pick up in Dover, leave in Devon) but, as I will be picking the car up on a Saturday, the 1 day rate of 26 extends to 2 days as their office is not open on Sundays. Online enquiry told me I could not book for 1 day and had to phone their central booking number. I told the bloke that I was being quoted a 1 day rate which I wanted but had to pay for 2 as their office was not open for me to drop the keys off. He spoke with the local office and I was told to leave the keys with a nearby hotel reception. I got my 1 day, 1 way hire.
I have hired cars from the local Ford dealer (unfortunately not in Kent). They used to charge me one day but I was able to use the car until Monday morning.
Do you live near an airport?
They are always open and you can return on a Sunday.
If no you can pay for delivery and collection at most of the big firms. You may have to negotiate an 'off hire' on the sunday but they will probably collect on monday and you can leave keys with a neigbour or under the mat. You cant drive the car once the car has been 'off hired' by the way.
I'm surprised you havent been quoted a weekend rate (Fri -Mon) which normally works out at the same as as two days- try National/Alamo
A lot of car hire places will have a key drop where you basically put the keys through their letterbox and can leave the car on their premesis. Although if you do this you are not there when they check over the car so any damage by vandals etc... between sunday night and monday morning will be your responsibility.
