It's a bank holiday!

What's on the agenda? What's on the menu? What's whetting your whistle?

My weekend will be largely spent at home. Food wise Seafood Paella on Sunday and pork wellington dinner on Monday.

Fayre will be washed down with these two beauties:

https://bijouwine.com/ciel-de-lilac-rose/ (Available at Aldi for the exceptional price of £8.99)

https://www.aldi.co.uk/exquisite-padthaway-chardonnay/p/053821004800600 (available at the ridiculous price of £5.79)

Two remarkable wines!

Happy bank holiday!

Oh Dear! I'd forgotten Monday! :( Meatballs and spaghetti and salad on Saturday and a piece of locally-reared rump steak on Sun.. (it was half-price in the 'grab it now' section of Morrison's on Thurs., so I popped it in the freezer). Not sure what the accompaniments will be, but we're clearing the last of the beans etc. from the garden so I'll work it out on the day.
Wine - I received a few very nice bottles for my recent birthday. Possibly a Gerard Bertrand Reserve Speciale Merlot 2018 with the steak on Sunday and I have a pleasant Chianti for the Sat..

You've started me worrying about Monday --- baked beans on toast with whatever is left over?
As a retired person, I no longer 'get' Bank Holidays!!!
Here its going to be boiling hot, extremely noisy and the barbecues will stink...everyone around me seems to cook the cheapest sausages and burgers they can find. I will be delighted when the bank holiday is over, the weather cools down and the screaming little darlings are back at school. mumble grumble
Aaagh! How annoying! Someone is recommending wines when (according to the quacks up at the hospital) I'm not allowed to drink them :(

I've no real plans for the weekend but I want to catch the start of the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final from Wembley on telly at 2pm (or possibly later on catchup). I've no interest in the match itself but my 14yo grandson is a flag bearer for St Helens!

Other than that I've got no real plans for the weekend but I might attend the Blue Cross Open Day at their Ipswich re-homing centre on Monday. The only problem I might have their is that, as well as enjoying the fun activities that are laid on, I might be tempted to adopt a cat or a dog (both of which my four cats would definitely NOT approve of!)
I'm working on Monday but I get paid ten times my normal wage for doing so, no all bad!!
Would that, by any chance, be ten times zero though, Susan?
A weekend in the Preselis
Watch the Beca Race, a 5mile fell run to the top of the mountain and back. It celebrates the 19th Century Rebecca riots protesting against the toll gates on many road when locals dressed in womens' clothes
and when apprehended gave their name as Rebecca.
The winner dons a dress and uses an axe to demolish the finish gate
Could you have the time off in lieu, Susan. 10 days.
Distance running was the only sport that I was good at in my school days, Haras2, but that was in (generally flat) East Anglia. I'm not too sure how well I'd get on with fell running! (I also note that, as far as the Ras Beca organisers are concerned, I'm now too old to be classed as a 'veteran'. Apparently I'm now a 'super veteran'!)

Since you're so good with the history though, perhaps you can explain how the junior event, which precedes Ras Beca, came to be called the 'Black Pig Memorial Race'?
Chris - spoil sport
Buenchico (fao)
The Mochyn du (Black Pig) was, I understand , a children's rhyme
which complained about how heavy he was!
When I go tomorrow, I will ask the neighbours and let you know
what the concensus is

Thanks, Haras2,

Sounds lovely, Jourdain. I think Steak and Merlot is my husband's favourite combination.

Sounds interesting, Haras. I hope it goes well.
Morning CG xxx That Chardonnay is rather nice.

It's amazing, WBM. The beautiful flavours of lime leaf make it a perfect partner to spicy Asian food. I cooked a Chinese curry last night, served the Chardonnay with it and LordMG was blown away.
That's a lovely combination CG. I wish I'd been invited! ;o}
That's a good price too!
Question Author
It's a ridiculous price for a wine of that quality, WBM.

You're always welcome to dine with us - we should arrange something once the renovations are finished.
That would be delightful CG. I would, of course, return the invitation. I will show you the lovey view across the Severn that I keep on about! ;o}

I can feel a nice cold glass of wine coming on later.
