For ABers 'mental' disorders?
I'm diagnosed as having some kind of personality disorder (which, frankly, I find insulting but its stuck on my medical records) Buen is diagnosed as having autism, others are registered as bipolar etc.

Should we make allowances when replying to posts as to the mental states of the posters? What I mean is, should we take into consideration the fact that not everyone has the same mental state as ourselves. In the past I have seen Buen receive flak for saying that the dead should be forgotten...immediately. If that is HIS reality who are we to question it?
Why do we assume that everyone should think, or have the same mindset, as ourselves?

(Sorry Chris for using you as the main example of my OP)

No. The poster should make adjustments to their posts to anticipate answers which their mental condition might predicate.
Of course we should, if we knew which disorders the posters have which is not usually the case. Most are probably personality or behavioural disorders rather then mental illness/disorders

Why Zacs? Because a post doesn't conform to what you want it to?
Just curious here, not looking for an argument.
Not at all. The readers may not be aware of the posters ‘mental’ state. It is therefore incumbent upon the writer to use English which allows for this somas to not sway answers or encourage bias.
I usually do try to do that tbh. If someone is clearly in the throes of a massive depressive episode for example I would not be so harsh and forthright s I might be, likewise I appreciate that not everyone has the same essential mindset as me. When I've had problems most people here are very kind (odd exceptions but hey...) so I think most people do. x
So as to

Utter rubbish! Nobody should EVER hold back from saying exactly what they think (either here or in a face-to-face situation) because "it might cause offence or hurt".

'Sensitive' people should EXPECT to be greatly offended dozens of times every day and those who give such offence should be APPLAUDED for doing so, rather than pandering to some STUPID notion of 'respecting their sensitivities'.
Well.. what a good question - it rather depends if a poster is using the cover of their condition in an attempt to shock or get a reaction.

As Grandmother to 4 children on the spectrum , I know a lot of the ploys.

Judge each post and poster on merit and respond as best you can.
We can only judge people on what is posted IMOI

I hate to use another ABer as an example without their permission but some weeks ago I was mortified at some of the abuse Chris (Buen) got for stating that the dead should be forgot about immediately. Chris is a functioning autistic (and has been a godsend to many on here).

‘Nobody should EVER hold back from saying exactly what they think (either here or in a face-to-face situation) because "it might cause offence or hurt".‘

Mmm. No they shouldn’t. But they should then accept the replies they receive with that in mind and with the fact that the respondents have no way of knowing what ‘mental’ state the poster is in.
I always thought that some kind of mental disorder was a prerequisite for those who spend the whole day on AB.
Chris is a stalwart of AB. Of that there is no doubt. BUT it doesn’t give him, or anyone else with a ‘condition’ any right to expect people to make allowances for that in their answers.
I think we do - I do anyway if I am aware. I

I find it more
JD, the irony of your response is stultifying.
The post at 00.08 is a good example of why we should make allowances. God help the world if everyone thought like that.
I think there are times you should hold back, when you know for sure it is against what most people see as decent behaviour - that is what we have taught the children.

Not feeling grief doesn't come into it, that's personal to an individual.

Other things may well be seen as beyond the pale and kept to oneself.
No luck chris, I'm talking to you as I would everyone else on AB .:-)
Thanks, Anne.

We weirdos should stick together ;-)
