I have very big hips, a small waist and not a large bust. My thighs are quite chunky and my calves are very muscly from all teh sport I do. What's the best way to emphasize my good points in a casual and original way? I'm only 5"2' as well so..! Thanks x

My wife and friend were discussing something like this recently. Darker colours on bottom, lighter colours on top. Patterns and designs look better on the top. A short open jacket that just touches the hips helps align contours. Vertical stripes and designs are better than horizontal designs.

Hi Ellen. Funnily enough I was pondering the same thing myself on my way to work this morning! I am at my wits end trying to find trousers that don't cling to my chunky thighs - well nigh impossible. Monsoon seem the best of a bad bunch for jeans and trousers, and French Connection are not too bad a cut for trousers either. I try to find wide leg trousers which hang from the hips and skim over the thighs (allegedly bootcut also work well but I have never found this) and then wear a fitted top to emphasise my waist. Long skirts look nice as well - go for something shaped to flatter the curve of your hip - if it is just long and straight it will probably just make you look bulky on the bottom half. A mid/high heel on your shoe might help as well. Please do let me know if you find any high street shops to recommend - I'm finding it hard to find anything to fit. (I am a size 12ish but the thighs are always cut too small/unflatteringly). Good luck!

Anything that comes in at your waist, as that's where you want the eye to be drawn.

skirts would look better, with short jackets, layer on top if you want to bulk it out a bit. - I'm overweight and have always avoided skirts and dresses, i'm only just realising that they are the most flattering! doh.
