What's Bt Broadband Like?

Currently we have Virgin cable for broadband, TV, and phone.

Normally excellent service, but been a bit wobbly of late, plus the loss and potential loss of TV channels as Virgin doesn't want to pay for them, plus fed up with trying to talk to their Service Department (nothing against Indian help lines, but on technical matters I really would rather talk to someone whose first language is English), and so on...

Anyway, the only real alternative round here seems to be BT Broadband.

Any experiences helpful.

Thanks.

Bill is with Virgin but they have taken away some of the channels, he wants out, like I do, but with a cable company rather than an aerial on the roof - that's all he wants to know.

Blooming brilliant, been with them for years, very few problems.
Very good here. Fast and reliable
Well if it's your only alternative, Bill you may have to go with it. I had a dreadful time dealing with BT....changed to Virgin which was a real disaster....well they lied when they installed and left me without a phone line for what was to be months.
I changed to Plusnet and they have been excellent...

BT's service to me was wobbly and often failed. Trying to get them to sort it out was my main difficulty....both in contacting them and getting them to listen properly and deal with the issues...x
Never been with anyone else, no complaints at all. When I've needed to speak to them (rarely & usually about contract), I dial 150 & get through to very helpful people in this country.
Been with them for years. Reliable and fast Broadband no service issues
Did you know that bt own plusnet?

Just been Googling their TV service, and not very impressed. They talk about having a rooftop aerial - round here, they're pretty hopeless. We're in a valley, and there is a line of tall poplar trees between us and Crystal Palace, and when the wind blows, the signal goes!

Virgin's cable TV comes in on cable, so as long as it works, it's perfect.

Is BT's fibreoptic stuff just for broadband? I was (wrongly) imagining that the TV etc. came in down the same line.

We're with talk talk never had a problem with them

What's Plusnet?
I know that, Woof.....and did before I went with them on recommendation. With Plusnet I deal with different people and the service from them has given no problems in two years.
With BT the problems were every month or two with the internet and a constantly crackly phone.
They initially told me it was my phone so I bought new ones and had the same problems.......until they finally found the break in the lines....after months..... :-)
Been with Virgin for years and ,although it is in India, I have always found the technical support excellent.
Plusnet.
I have been with BT for years and have just negotiated a new 18month contract. Like everything you need to haggle but, competition is fierce now, so BT are fairly accommodating.
I agree with one of the previous posts, clear speaking customer services which is a big plus for me.

And can one of you BT users confirm that the TV comes in through a rooftop aerial?

Ta
I worked for BT all my working life, so as an employee, I got free broadband, and never had any issues.

I do believe they are the market leader for a good reason, their service is the best.

Contact BT and get a price, then contact PlusNet and get a price, which will be cheaper, then go back to BT and ask them to beat it.

Chances are they will - as advised, it's a competitive market.

Price really isn't a problem, it's consistency and quality of service.

Does BT TV come down a rooftop aerial?
Sorry, just realised you want TV as well, so my comments are not relevant as I don't have their TV services.
I must admit BT came good in the end and after I'd left them....they sent a nice cheque for all the bother they'd put me through...must admit it was quite a surprise!
I had problem with BT which Colin in India could not deal with, after several calls to people who said they could help but failed, I discovered that when the auto answer thing kicks in you state "Customer retention team" and you speak to someone with English as a first language. Works every time.
Sorry forgot to say I get phone, broadband and tv from BT.
