I suffer with Spondlyosis in my upper back. The last few days all of my spine legs and arms feel tight and twitchy. During the night for the last few nights my back seems very "restless" as if I cannot fully relax and when dozing off to sleep I get spasms which makes me jump. 1 hour sleep last night back aching bad in the mornings. It does sound as if you "may" be developing a complication of cervical spondylosis due to irritation of the spinal nerves, called cervical radiculopathy. This may present as intermittent episodes of what you describe with periods of absence of symptoms OR persistent symptoms with no relief.
Monitor the situation for a few weeks to see which way the " cookie is going to crumble."
In the meantime try Ibuprofen 400mgs last thing at night.

how old is your bed millie? i have just brought a eve mattress and it has done wonders for my back. I often go to sleep with it aching, but wake up pain free. I also use a foam roller, and do stretches when i wake , which really help
after talking to the customer support team, they said this will give me better support, and it really does. Plus you don't have to flip it and you can try it free for 100 nights
