could be a GOLDCREST
It IS the Goldcrest- its close relative the Firecrest does visit these shores as well. The Goldcrest is resident here.
How about the wren?
Nope- the wren is bigger than both the Goldcrest and Firecrest

From the BBC nature site

Physical Description
At a length of 9.5-10cm, wrens are the second smallest birds in the UK, after the firecrest/goldcrest. They are russet-brown with a paler underside. The wings, tail and flank are barred, as is the back, but less distinctly. They are rotund with a short, upturned tail. Wrens have a pale eyestripe. The different sexes and ages look similar.

A lot of people think its the wren, remember the old farthing coins with the wren on it,word seem to spread around that it was the smallest bird in the british isles but when you get a good view of a gold or fire crest, no contest. I was lucky enough to see a pair of gold crests together and noted the male had a slightly brighter yellow eye stripe
