If she wants to lose weight (as opposed to you thinking she needs to) then possibly paying her subs to WeightWatchers (or similar) might help.

There are also some excellent internet based groups which help with menu planning and calorie counting.
This site has worked wonders for a friend of mine - it needs discipline, but it does work :

Does she live with you ? If you supply meals you can ensure thast they are calorie counted. Otherwise it's really up to her. IMO one needs to monitor what one is eating in order to ensure one isn't having too many Calories. Encourage her to take it seriously. Not have too many treats.
500 calories a meal, 3 meals a day, Ive lost 3 stone since December 1st, gone from a 36" waist to a 30"....Oh, & some willpower :))
I don’t think you can.....has she asked for your help?
Tell her to only regularly eat the three standard meals (nothing in between) and make certain there is no sugar (including fructose - all fruit) in any of what she eats or drinks in a balanced diet. That should bring noticeable results within five weeks - keep it up. You don't say how much weight - if she is obese, not to mention morbidly obese, then cutting either lunch or dinner out altogether may be called for. She should make certain she drinks enough fluid throughout, plain water is best (straight from the tap, no need for bottles). She must not go back to previous eating habits, eating too much, after the weight is off because then it will simply return.
If she lives with you, you can help her by encouraging her to eat healthy food and go for walks, cycle rides or swimming with her.

Don't tell her how many calories to consume, meals to eat or anything like that. My mum used to do that - I wasn't even fat - and it made eat more.
Hi Bowie - if your daughter is serious re losing weight - I found this really good

myfitnesspal.com - it tells you every single thing you put in your mouth.
