I have been taking Natures Best Garlic 1400mg (one tab) for about two weeks now. I was told they would help to prevent insect bites. I can react very badly when bitten.
Within an hour of taking the tablet I am burping Garlic for ages and it's all I can taste.
Does anyone have recommendations for a supplement that doesn't do this please.
Off now to do gardening for a friend. Won't get bitten, it's drizzling!

One of the Vit B complex is supposed to be good - it has to be taken 6 weeks before holiday. Sorry no more info - ask at a Pharmacy.
I used to like garlic but stopped using it altogether a few years ago, as I was conscious that turning up at customers houses, stinking of the stuff wasn't conducive to good sales !

I did try those bloody pills but they were just as bad, so now no longer bother.
How could anything prevent insects from biting ,do these little folk not do as they like ?
Deet is the only thing that worked for me !
I suspect they don't like to bite garlic fragrance skin.
I recommend garlic toast for breakfast and garlic bread at other meals. [i](Nothing to do with mosquitoes: just good taste.)[i]
They really are going to have to fix this, punctuation messes up italics, thing.
The italics would have been sufficient, OG.

It didn't like the colon!
Aye. The punctuation. :-(
Stupid, innit?
I've been taking garlic tablet for some years now, and have never had a problem regrding burping or tasting garlic when taking them.
I've never heard about the fact that they are supposed to prevent insect bites though. I take them as I had high blood pressure and heard that garlic was used for many conditions including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, narrowed arteries, etc, but insect bites - never!
As I'm treated successfully by my doctor for various conditions due to type 2 diabetes, I can't claim that garlic tablets are the answer, but I will continue to take them.
The garlic tablets I take are purchased as part of my supermarket shop, and can honestly say I have never experienced the problems stated by jakep.

To get rid of the taste and smell of garlic chew some parsley.
....^^and then you'll have green deposits between your teeth.....!
I took garlic tablets for the same purpose and am sorry to say it didn't work. The bloody blighters still bit me to death. On investigating, you need to swallow garlic raw. Check out http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/24/health/24real.html
I read that eating Marmite keeps the mozzies away.
I always eat Marmite, and am rarely bitten, but that's not proof of course. Might be nicer than garlic anyway.
