Can anyone tell me how I go about obtaining this from abroad. I know that the cost is around 25,000 but I don't know how to get it. It is for my mum who has recently had breast cancer. I know Canada or USA do it. Who would I need to contact? Pls don't want to hear that there have not been enough tests on it etc.

Any of the cancer charities should be able to advise on obtaining drugs from overseas. Breakthrough is a charity specialising in breast cancer care and research. Their contact details are here:
http://www.breakthrough.org.uk/contact_us.html

If this drug is considered appropriate, however, you should be able to get it on the NHS since it has been approved by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. See this link:
http://www.breakthrough.org.uk/about_breast_cancer/treat ment/drug_therapy/antibody_treatments/trastuzumab.html

It should be remembered, though, that this drug is only useful in those types of breast cancer in which the body forms excessive amounts of the HER2 protein. (Approximately 25-30% of all breast cancers). It has no effect on other forms of breast cancer. Link here:

This is a good sign hopefully available for all those who need it not just exceptional cases soon.
Buenchico beat me to it!  I heard today on the radio that  the nurse in question had succeeded in her court case - the item went on to say that it opened the way for "thousands of other women" and that it could cost the NHS "millions".  Looks like you should try again with the appropriate doctor for your mother.  It will, I'm sure, be in the newspapers tomorrow.  Good luck!
Glad you got good reponses butterfly, I just want to say good luck and get well to your mum, and to wish her all the best x x
