I grew up in the States, so I may be hard-pressed for an answer.  I remember a song from about 13 years ago played on an indie/alternative radio station about a dog named Dixie.  It was basically a man singing, playing a guitar.  Kind of folk-sy.  This is how the song started..can't find it anywhere in the interweb.  If you can help, I'll be so happy!  Went like this:

I'm a tiny dog named Dixie I have small feet which pitter-patter on the linoleum, you can hear my toenails in the middle of the night.

My tag says I belong to the Johnsons, but they don't own me, they just feed me, they just bought me one day......

Can I get a "eureka!"?  It's called "Dixie the Tiny Dog", it's by Peter Himmelman, and you can listen to it for free here.

Eureka!!!  I can't believe someone knew it!  Thanks so much lookslikemik...how did you know that one?  It's not exactly as I rememeber it, either it's a different version or my memory has jumbled it up a bit.  The link you gave was part of the song, the full one is here:

Believe it or not, I Googled "tiny dog named dixie" and there it was.

Strange, I have googled it, yahooed it and still found nothing.  You must have the magic touch.  Go buy a lottery ticket!!

There is another version of this song that has more of the lyrics you put in your email. The links have a version I'm not as familiar with. Who did the second version, do you know?

Question Author
Okay, maybe I'm thinking of the same version unicoaching is....because it did sound a bit different to me, too.  Maybe it was another version that Himmleman did, not on the site?
I heard this song( the second version, not the himmelman link version) played on an FM station one day in the summer of 2005 in Tucson Az. It was 92.9 FM currently known as "the mountain". anyway they have a web site (929themountain.com) where perhaps more information on the second version may be obtained. I happen to think the song is funny but some ppl call it the worst song ever written.
anyway pls post link to other version thanks.
