Swelling

Eight weeks post op and I have developed a VERY swollen foot over the last week. Surgeon saw me last week (less swelling) he told me all was well and to use it and exercise, also massage the scars rigorously - I am but but it's very uncomfortable.

I've had a fair few surgeries on the same ankle/foot so know the drill usually.

This surgery was to bury a nerve to reduce pain and so I've lost a fair amount of feeling in said foot so I am unsure if anything else is happening.

I've tried elevation, hot and cold but nothing is helping. My foot is so swollen today that I could barely get a shoe on.

I am about to return to work and spend all day on my feet. How big is too big? What shall I do if it keeps growing?

Thanks all

My husband had a swollen foot. He is not moving much in hospital. My daughter put some cream and massaged away from foot and up the leg (leg out level on a chair). It was so successful that hardly looks swollen at all now. It was huge.
May not help but thought I should mention.

Thanks Grasscarp, I've been doing similar since surgery every day too to aid healing and nerve damage. Thanks
Eight weeks post op..........it cannot be anything serious.

Are we talking....a localised swelling or the whole foot swollen?
Question Author
Extreme swelling in the furthest part from surgical site and the rest of the foot is also huge. I figure it's nothing serious too but if I can't get shoes in then I can't work, any suggests to reduce it? Thanks Sqad.
\\\any suggests to reduce it?\\\

Nothing comes to mind Greenfly.

Perhaps a good night's sleep might see your foot return to normal in the morning enabling your shoes to be "fitted" and then see what tomorrow brings.

if your foot is swollen in the morning and you can't get your shoe on, then that solves the problem of work.

Monitor the situation.

Thanks Sqad. Have to return to work unfortunately, it seems to grow as the week progresses. I've never had swelling like it before now and have had some pretty rough surgeries before now. Will see how things pan out.
