The task bar which is usually along the bottom left of the screen is now stacked up in the right hand side of the screen with the on/off button. Not sure how this came about, I can't drag the screen to full width or move the icons. I have a Vista IE7 or 8. I seem to remember this happening once before but can't find the solution. I've now unlocked the taskbar. Can you help....

Maybe it is the description but that sounds like 2 issues. Task bar in the wrong space, and this "gap".

With the task bar unlocked you should be able to click on it, hold the button down, and drag the bar tot he bottom of the screen where most folk have it.

Sorry I haven't been able to use the laptop it is 'busy' and stops me from using it for ages, (this is a long running problem) apart from the gap that has developed. I can't seem to be able to drag the icons it only clicks onto the programme that the pointer seems to be on at the time. All the symbols are down the right hand side of the screen where they are usually along the bottom. It seems to have happened while this update/busy whatever is going on in the background yesterday and it has started up again.

Thanks for your help (again). It has worked I'm back to normal screenwise and taskbar wise. Wish this busy flickering in the background would stop. Thank you.

I'm not really up to speed with a lot of the strange programmes that seem to be on there and I wouldn't know which the problem one was to disable it. I'm not sure how to disable the Adobe Flash player either, I don't normally use the BBC iPlayer it would be a case of remembering to turn it on again for certain applications. The problem could quite well be what you suggest methyl, but I'm not computer literate enough to identify it. Thank you for your input.
The idea isn't to drag the icons but the whole bar.

Thank you OG I tried to drag the whole bar and wasn't quite successful at first, but it is ok now. :)
Glad to hear.
