These days you  hear of so many celebrities having facelifts. Is it really necessary to have plastic surgery once you pass a certain age? Do you know of anyone who looked halfway decent right into their old age sans plastic surgery?

My mum!  She is 68 and no-one ever gets her age right.  She has kept herself fit and healthy as much as she can.  Still works full time and uses the same face cream which is the cheap Avon moisturiser!  Yes she has wrinkles but her skin is perfect and still looks in her mid 50s easily.
ah well, how would anyone know?? Since the whole point of surgery is to look good without it being obvious...I think Paul McCartney looks great, but then maybe he's been under the knife - how could I tell?
My nan is nearly 70 but like Mrs_Pegasus' mum looks in her 50's, people always comment on how much younger she looks. Although she's just had a facelift so that kinda goes out the window but in all honesty she doesn't look that much better for it, she still looks in her 50's (I think she thought she'd end up looking in her 30's though hehe)

Thanks guys.

Jno you've missed the point, see other replies above for the gist of my question!!

sorry - didn't realise you meant 'know anyone personally' rather than just know of anyone. I suspect the key to it is good bone structure; prominent cheekbones, chins etc make the skin appear tauter. But what that often means is that people who look good when old are those who looked good when young, which may not be much comfort to the rest of us!

All the women in my family look average in youth, but great when they are older. Basically, we all have chubby faces in our family. So, when we are young we all look fat (no matter how thin we are), but that fat seems to make our faces look youthful and wrinkle-free in old age.
