This is something that I have been wondering about for a while.
I'm male 34 years old and straight with a girlfriend but....
I don't seem to have any concept of how attractive men are. When I look at men they all seem to be about as handsome/ugly or whatever as each other. It doesn't bother me and its not a problem but I wonder why I lack this facility.
I look at Brad Pitt, George Cloony or male models to see if I can judge weather they re handsome or not but I just cant.
Women I can see how attractive they are just fine.
As I say its not a problem but does anyone know why this might be?

Tastes change person to person. I'm sure you can pick out extremes. But other than that the choices of women are mysterious, I think they are meant to be. For sure they don't seem to look for the same things as guys do, picking out some rather plain looking guys as ideal types. Maybe looks are less of an issue for women or something. For sure I've often wondered what they see in men anyway, as they have never appealed to me.
Is it because attractiveness is not an objective thing?

It isn't measured by a specific set of criteria.

So if you don't find other guys attractive in a subjective way, then you have no yardstick by which to determine whether or not they are attractive at all.

Yes attractiveness is subjective, depending on peoples personal tastes but I seem to lack the facility completely. I can tell if a man is really ugly but nothing else. I only know male models are attractive when I see them is because theyre presented as male models.

I grew up thinking I might be a Lesbian, due to the fact I've never found any man attractive!
;-)
It's not always that simple.

Kate Moss became the most photographed model in the world, bit she didn't have any of the attributes of the top supermodels of the time ...

She wasn't tall
She didn't have good boobs
Or perfect teeth
Or big, wavy hair
Or clear skin
Or big, clear eyes

She just had good cheek bones, and bad attitude ...

And, for some reason, the whole world found her attractive.
You're not the only one VV, I've never been able to distinguish a good looking bloke either.
All animals are deep-programmed to find certain physical characteristics attractive or a turn off.

These are rooted in evolutionary criteria for attributes that will be associated with producing good offspring.

As a heterosexual man you are programmed with the criteria for choosing female partners not males. Even men who believe they can distinguish male attractiveness will frequently find themselves surprised at some of the the choices women make - and vice versa.
What do you think about the eurovision song winner? That is a very attractive man in a feminine way to me.
Dressed as a female, with a beard I would say he is attractive, without the beard and dressed as a man I find him 'ordinary'
You think you are confused.
i'm heterosexual but recognise a good looking man when i see one ... i wrongly assumed everyone could
Quoi - non, niet, nein, nada, no nay never etc....
Gotcha shoota - had you thinking about it. lol
'I don't seem to have any concept of how attractive men are'

You obviously have some concept of how attractive women are so why ask this question?
Its not something I ever consider to be honest as rare I ever think about men apart from my doctor who looks like mr magoo
I often look at some blokes and think ... bstrd, I bet he can pull them.
