I have a couple of burns on my leg, they are dressed and covered up with bandages but they are itching like crazy, is there anything i can take to help???

Well, that depends upon the state of the burns....if they are almost healed, dry and no sign of infection, then Hydrocortisone Cream 1% which is an OTC drug would certainly stop the itching.

However, if this is not the case, then Piriton Tablets 4mgms twice daily may well be helpful.

still raw sqad luckily not infected but have to keep the dressings on for a while yet

i'll get some piriton, the nurses said it probably wouldn't do much, but im willing to try anything right now!

Been thinking, Phenergan 25mgms has greater anti histamine properties than Piriton, but unfortunately also has greater sedative effects, but may be fine to take last thing at night if the itching keeps you awake.

thanks - will pop down to the pharmacy when i can find one that's open :-) i'm off work at the mo, so being sleepy isn't an issue, i can see if i can rival murph for napping.....
Would drinking water help? It would help with hydration.
My old mum always used to say that if wounds were itching, it meant they were getting better :-)

I very cleverly tipped a jug full of boiling hot gravy down myself. got piriton,hope it works!
geez oh. when are the dressings due to be changed ?

they're being done every other day at the mo. id like to get the dressing s off but its still raw at the mo
Ouch - that puts my visit to MIU after clutching a hot oven tray, well into the shade....
poor thing. hope the medication works.
this dusted on wound will do it, also contains antiseptic

thanks tambo but i get the dressings changed at the hosp and im not sure I would want to put that on an open wound - the skin has come off...
Like others, I would recommend antihistamine tablets.
What a horrid state of affairs - I hope your legs heal soon x

anti h's haven't helped although I seem to of had the side effects :-D

sorry anne, didn't see this. got the dressings changed yest and i was able to leave the dressing off my shin so that was much better and i took the one off my foot this morning. i have spare so i'll put them back on if i go out.

other than that i am using e45 to moisterise and keep the itching down to a dull roar
good news to get the dressings off, im sure the cream and the air will help the itching. are you cooking dinner tomorrow ? !
