I was once told that eyesight deteriorates at 40, particularly night vision. Is this supported by any evidence?

I do feel that my night vision when driving is not what it was as I find I am more easily dazzled by oncoming headlights.

I am probably overdue a sight test but do wonder if there is a general degeneration with age?

Glare is likely to be due to lens changes such as mild cataract or possibly macula problems.
Night vision can sometimes be more problematic due to lens changes (nuclear sclerosis) making you go slightly shortsighted (f you had no distance correction beforehand although we often have slight prescription changes when it goes dark. Noticeable changes from dusk are often commented on.
Have an eye exam and find out what is going on.
