An update for york310 if you're about. I once asked you about dry eyes but the story has developed.

Back in 2011 I saw a specialist and after a series of drainage tests he diagnosed blocked tear ducts. In 2012 i had stents put in and later removed but over the course of this year one eye still fails to drain and the other drains poorly. Seen the specialist again this morning and he has decided i need bypass surgery on eye and a slight modification on the other while he's there. He says its an overnight stay in hospital and a couple of weeks recuperation.

Do you know how invasive that bypass surgery is? Will i be able to see or have to keep my eyes covered after surgery. Any info and reassurance gratefully received.

Hi, will look at answers to this as I have just seen specialist about same problem and she advised me to have same op but said there was 70% chance of it working.

York 310 will put some flesh on my answer, but the bypass is called a Dacrocystorhinostomy (DCR) and can either be done by an eye surgeon or an ENT surgeon.

it is a simple procedure with possibly only an overnight stay.
Hi Maydup - when you asked about this earlier I gave a link to a patient information sheet which may answer some of these questions.

Thanks Squad

Shedman - have you had the stents? I had those and was offered 70% chance success but not very successful. I've been offered 100% success to cure the drainage issue with the bypass op and 90% success of curing sticky eye. Which i don't have yet but am told i will have if I do nothing.

Thanks Slaney i had forgotten that link, very useful.
Hi Maydup, no I haven't had the stents yet. So far they tried to get fluid down them which didn't work as they were completely blocked. Then they did a small op which made them a bit wider but that hasn't worked properly so now they have said that they will do the thing Sqad says, Dacryocystorhinostomy if I want. She said this involves putting in stents and cutting a bit of bone from my nose in 2 separate ops, one for each eye. Have just really been looking to see what I could find out about it.
