I'm taking early retirement soon from my full time job. After Christmas I would like to get a part time job. I have a very good job at the moment, but I'm not a job snob, and will do almost anything on a part time basis just to get me out of the house. I'll be doing the rounds of supermarkets and the like, but if was wondering if I can apply for jobs at the local Jobcentres, or are they only for those on benefit?

You can register as unemployed- you may be entitled to contribution based JSA or at least get your NI stamp paid and use the facilities.
I am sure you can just walk in anyway and look through the ads.
I think you may have more luck with a job agency though
Use your computer at home and the jobcentre site. The days of jobs on boards are long gone jobs are for anyone.

Many thanks both!
It might be worth speaking to your local temp agency too. In the past I've had some great long term part time jobs.

When I was made redundant at the age of 57 the job centre was useless, even the job centre clerk told me ,off the record, that they ad great difficulty getting anything for a person over 55.
I signed on with an employment agency and said I would do anything, they get me work mainly as a kitchen porter (washing up) but I do other jobs as well, I am working in a care home ay the moment.
You can try the job centre , they are for anyone to use now not just those who 'sign on', but sign up with employment agencies as well.
