I was sent to see a consultant regarding a skin complaint and she said that she would like to prescribe a certain medication but I would have to have an Etc scan before she could do this. Could anyone tell me why please and what kind of Medicine it is likely to be.
Thank you.

What is the skin complaint? I don't know what an etc scan is. Sorry

Sorry ,it may have been ECG scan.
ECG checks for abnormal heart beat/rhythm (there will be a better medical explanation than that) I am puzzled how relevant to a skin complaint?
Ecg is electocardiogram to check your heart patterns. Do you know what the skin complaint is? I take it they're thinking of a medication that may affect your heart somehow.
Ahh I am sorry I re-read your question. Yes, in some circumstances (ususally based on your medical history) they may wish to do some checks before prescribing certain drugs. If you caught the name of the drug I am sure Sqad or another medical expert on here will guide you in the right direction?

Itchy skin and the feeling that something is crawling over me. This is driving me mad as it means that I am constantly in the shower and changing bedding every day.
I have had the council up to check my home and they say there is no evidence that any thing is in the house. Although I live alone my family visit me regularly any they do not feel anything.
I must just tell you that I am very house proud.
I am at a complete loss to understand the question (not your fault).
Sorry i cannot help.
Did sqad suggest formication? (please read carefully) or was that for someone else? The main triggers i can find are menopause and psychotic diseases, but you would know if that's relevant to you. I'm sure he gave the name of a syndrome too. I'll see if i can find that and likely treatments.
Ah. You're there sqad. I remember you telling someone to google "...syndrome" quite recently. Can you remember which?
your doctor just wants an ecg prior to starting treatment.
Some skin complaints are caused by stress and heart conditions, maybe they are just checking heart to see if this is a factor or whether the medication might have an adverse effect.

You could always contact the consultant and ask.
Sorry. I can't find that one now. Speak to the consultant and see what they've diagnosed and what medication they're considering, maybe. Sorry.

Although I am 78years old I have always been fit and healthy ( apart from dodgy knees)
It is very rare that I see my GP. I just think that it must be very powerful medication warrant a scan.
Anyway thank you all for you interest. I have had the scan today and I will let you know the outcome.
It is definitely an EEG in my opinion and not an ECG.

The purpose would be to exclude a cerebral abnormality to account for your symptoms prior to drug therapy.

Thank you quad.
I get the feeling that my GP thinks that I am imagining things and I know that I am not.
I just feel so frustrated and can't get this off my mind.
GP 's just don't seem to have enough time to listen to you anymore , that,s when you can get an appointment.

leah...to settle the EEG problem, you have said that you have had it today.

Where did they put the electrodes, on your chest or on your head?

If it was on your head, it was an EEG.
Pixie, you may have been thinking about Ekbom's syndrome, which also includes other syndromes such as 'Restless legs'.

Leah I hope they get you sorted and you are more comfortable soon.
Mamy...well if it is, it wasn't me cus i've never heard of that syndrome.....

The electrodes were put on my chest and my ankles.
Sorry to be so vague but the consultant just told me to ask my doctor to arrange this without telling me why. I did'nt ask questions because I always feel very vulnerable why I have to say what is wrong with me. That is what is good about AB you can be anonimous and someone is always ready to help. Thanks.
Thank you, mamya. It could have been, although doesn't sound entirely familiar. I might just be talking out of my antennae :-\
