Is there a difference between how hairdressers earn their money and barbers? How many pay for a pitch in a salon and how many get a salary? Can you also tell me what percentage of a hairdressers salary is made up of tips? I know someone who never tips and says they get paid anyway - this is true but to what extent?? Many thanks for your answers!

Here in New Zealand hairdressers and barbers get paid a wage or salary and we don't tip.  Obviously if they are the owner of the buisness they sort that out themselves but people don't buy their place in the salon unless they are say a partner and then they would get a percentage of profit, I think.
Most barbers are salaried whereas hair dressers often earn by percentage. Say 60/40 with the former for the owner and the latter is theirs. They can also get commission for their work.
