Given how slow it is on AB tonight, it looks as if most people's leccy is still off!

I hope that it warms up soon for you, PP13, but a few extra layers of clothing should help. (I'm wearing 2 pairs of thermal socks and 5 layers of clothing!).

Amazing to think how much we rely on leccy, running water, gas etc.

Luckily we have a battery operated radio.

All is well now, house warm, TV on and PC also.
Yes, I agree, PiedPiper, we are really only a cable away from the Stone Age; we depend on leccy that much.

How much is everyone's quarterly bill, by the way? I hope you don't think I'm being nosey but mine is about £60 per quarter, sometimes less. Is this good?
I'm currently paying £53 per month for my electricity, JB12. (i.e. £159 per quarter).

It's estimated that the average fuel bill that people will receive for the current quarter will be £530:

How on earth do you manage to get such a low bill, please tell me your secret!
Sorry that was directed to johnnyboy.

I put £25 a month away for leccy, usually enough. Gas is £38 per month.

To think that as a youngster there was no such thing as central heating.
Mines £140 per month.
We've just swapped to e-on so not sure what this quarter will be like, e-0n supposedly holding prices until 2014 will have to check it out when the bill comes. Amazing how much we rely on gas/electric now. We always had a lovely
coal fire which heated the water tank, no bother then unless of course you couldn't afford the coal
How big is your, errrrrm, house, PiedPiper?
Awwww what a day for the leccy to be off! Get the oven on too and have a nice hot meal, hope you warm up soon.

We had a planned outage on a Saturday 2 weeks ago. We decided to go out for the day and stayed overnight in a hotel. A good excuse for a little new year's treat, besides, it would have been too cold and miserable to stay in knowing there'll be no heat, cooker or hot water.
I switch everything off at night, including computers and tellies on standby, and I only live in one room at a time. I only switch on the things I use when I need them, and last, but not least I am single.

Children certainly brighten up a home; they leave all the lights on everywhere!

Hi AYG. I Loved the days when the coal bunker was full prior to the onset of winter.

Water was heated by the back boiler, you had to pull down or up the lever to draw the flames behind the back boiler. It made a strange whooshing sound asthe flames were sucked behind, andthe coals burned down quickly.

Happy days.

Smallish ummmm, two beds , lounge, living room, kitchen and bathroom.
How come you were using another abers picture as your avatar? You never did answer on the other thread. You were using Booldawgs facebook picture, a picture of him that you'd altered? When I asked about it you changed it back to your current one.

That's something a rum swigging banned user used to do...
between £60 and £80 per month (more for the gas) here JohnnyBoy, I would be very happy if ours was the same per quarter as yours!
I'm not sure what mine is but not high. I find it's easier to control living alone as well and I'm a beggar for only having a light on if it's needed. I will happily sit in the dark if I don't need a light on - like now, I have the TV on and light from my laptop so don't need any lights on.

My washing is also a lot less compared to people with families so less time using things like the washing machine or tumbledrier. I don't cook a lot either or have many hot drinks at home and only have a tiny countertop freezer as it's all I need. I don't have the heating on if I can help it either and, if I do, not for long. I only have a little house too.
Wow Jonny, that's very low. You obviously have a very energy-efficient household. Any tips for us?
We pay £140 a month for gas and electricity together. Seems a lot but also seems average.
I'm surprised at some of the bills being quoted here. I pay £71pm for gas and electricity, for a four bed detached house.
