i just had a wisdom tooth out and it was huge ,4 roots on it apparently ,but i was wondering what happens to the rather large hole thats left behind ?does it close up in time ?

because my current employer pays for my dental work ,should i get the other one taken out aswell before it becomes a problem? ta

Hi There

Yes the hole heals over and I assume a scar but never having looked back that far I cant be sure!

Hope you have been warned about 'dry socket' this is where the would is healing but food debris can get caught in the hole and turn yukky and hurt like merry hell!

Unless the other wisdom tooth is giving you trouble i really dont see the point in going through it all again.

I had no choice, I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth and spent 2 days in hospital after having mine removed!!!

I had a back tooth grew up behind the others as if it thought that two rows would be a neat idea! I eventually had it removed about 10 years ago. After it healed there was a hole that I'd find with my tongue and I thought I still had it but I cant find it now.

So I guess the answer is yes the hole in the gum does go but it takes quite a long time.
