Does anyone buy Simvastatin online, and if so, which company do you use. I am currently paying £7.65 a month as my doctor will only prescribe one month at a time, but this is going to be costly. Thanks in advance.

Have you asked your doc about a longer prescription on the grounds that you cant afford the 7 quid a month?
Question Author
It's not that I can't afford it, but like most things it seems to be better value to buy online. GP's will only prescribe one month at a time.
There's probably a very good reason why they won't prescribe more. Are there any potential side-effects with the drug that they want to be certain of spotting before they cause you problems?

perhaps Sqad will assist.
There can be problems relating to taking Simvastatins , which is why you should stick to what your doctor subscribes, this way he can keep any eye on things. Also if you buy on line do you really know what is in the tablets you are buying, there are Companies on the Web that sell all kinds of tablets from different parts of the world, my advice stick to what your doctor subscribes. Never buy tablets on line from a Company you have never heard of.
I was lucky enough to get 2 months at a time.
I did ask for 3 but they wouldn't play.
luckily I am off them at the moment as my cholestrol was back in line,
fingers crossed for my latest blood results Monday.
Sorry i cannot see any reason why two months supply should not be given in one prescription

In fact, I cannot see any reason why a repeat prescription for a year, to be dispensed at monthly intervals should be be available.
...^^^^ why it should NOT be available.
Normal prescription is for 8 weeks (56days). Ask your GP why you only have one month. Maybe he is trying out different drugs but as you say this costs you money. I remember when it used to be 3 months. It was changed to 2 to save costs. An enormous number of people pay nothing. I or 2 months is hardly going to save the NHS or is dangerous to you either.
sqad i am surprised at your reply. You are constantly (rightly) telling us how the NHS has no money. The drugs budget for my (very small) county last year was 56million pounds. The PCTs instruct gps to prescibe a month at a time. That way the NHS gets 12x £7.56 per year instead of 1x £7.56 a year. When you think of the number of people who are on Simvastatin, it makes good economic sense for the GP to prescribe 1 month's worth at a time. OK so simvastatin is actually about 7x cheaper than that but hey ho!
bednobs...the prescription is for a year, in other words one month's supply* 12. The patient can only get one month's supply at a time.......can't see your point.
the point is that the question is about how to avoid the monthly prescription charges! - you say "well prescribe it for a year, but still pay the charge everymonth when you fill the Px". I don't get how it helps the original poster :)
bednobs.....it doesn't financially but logistically it saves the patient contacting the GP for a repeat prescription.
I do not wish to be controversial, but this problem only exists for English folk. Our Scottish and Welsh friends are unaffected. Were I still under 60 I would have to choose between buying medication, food or, more importantly, drink!
that is why i'm surprised at your answer. You are very voiciferous on the NHS and what things cost.
If the OP gets a script for the year - ie 365 tabs for a one a day dose as one script, but the pharmacist dispenses 30 tabs a time then it's only one script cost

Think that is what is meant
Pre-Payment Certificates are well worth the money if you need three or more scrips a month.
Are annual payment cards available. I used one of those and it worked out quite a bit cheaper until charges were withdrawn when it became very cheap indeed.
I worked that out, it wont be for the OP @ 1 per month
i'm not sure i'm making myself all that clear :)
bednobs.....maybe!....maybe!

My answer really was to SeaJayPea's post.

In Spain's health service (Salud) all your medication is prescribed for one year and is on a credit card which can be taken into ANY chemist in Spain and dispensed., but only one month's supply at a time.
