Does anyone else have this stupid phobia?  People seem to think it's funny when I freak out at balloons but it's not really, honestly they really really give me the creeps. They sound, smell and feel horrible and they have no point or purpose.  Any one have any weird fears or phobias?

Just brought back a memory from the other weekend my cousin absoloutly hates them too and goes mad if one is near her and someone has a cigerette on or something. She made me laugh though bless you both!

The only phobia's i have are great heights and spiders which is not weird really but i do get scared if i chew gum sometimes that i will accidently swallow it and it will clog my insides up, absoloutly wappy idea i know but stems from something we were told at school when i was about 7, the teacher told us it would twist around our stomachs and if we swallowed too much we could go to hospital, well it certainly stopped me from swallowing gum ever. Nasty teacher! LOL

Well I'm not hysterical about them but I cannot stand to get anywhere near those cotton bud things that people shove in their ear!
Microphone heads, fluffy ones, it has the same effect to me as tin foil on fillings do to others.

I hate spiders but more amusingly (to other people anyway) have a real dread of tomato ketchup.

Real tomato sauces are fine but ketchup makes me shiver and feel sick. It's the look, the smell, the texture - everything. I really cannot bear to be near it, or have a plastic "tomato" full of it on the table at a cafe, for example -especially when it's spilled down the edges - that is utterly revolting to me.

Hi Mycatis, i dont like balloons either, i hate it when they burst with out warning, i dont go near anyone who is blowing them up or messing about with them. We have never had balloons in our house at Christmas or at any other special event.  Phobias :- I dont like spiders of any shape , size, or colour, craneflys:- they remind me of spiders with wings, wasps:- i hate them, the only purpose in their life, only to sting anyone who is in their way. I dont like to see 1 Magpie, i always say " hello mr magpie how are you today " to break the spell because i think something awful is going to happen if i dont. Moths :- i cannot stand them flying around my head, as long as they are flying around the light they are safe.  :-)
I just found out yesterday that the girl i work with has a phobia of Feathers. She will not go anywhere near them.

I dont mind balloons if their tied up, but if their floating about randomly they really freak me out. I get sscared to turn my back on them.

But my only real phobia is ridiculous, and i dont tell anybody because they just laugh. I know they cant hurt me but i cant stand 'Hoovers', The sound of the sucking pipe just makes me feel sick. I cant be in the same room as someone hoovering, and I have snapped a hoover pipe of someone who got too close to me once!!

Bluegh! (cold shiver)

Phobias are so interesting...

So, I guess I'll share...I have a GREAT fear of the dark..and this is called nachtaphobia. It may not sound all to odd at first, but I am 22 now, and I ahve had this fear for as long as I can remember. I have actually been known to hyperventilate if I'm in the dark and can't get light quick enough.

Needless to say, I am a fan of nightlights, and yes, my friends are amused with me.

i've got a bizare phobia of food thats mixed together i can eat mince and potatoes but i cant eat a shepards pie because it makes me gag
several years ago my childminder brought her daughter to my daughters birthday party and they had to leave after about 5 mins because of her fear of balloons.( she was almost hysterical ) they came back about half an hour later because she really wanted to come to the party, apparently this started to alleviate her fear of balloons and now she is okay
I'm a nightclub doorman, spent 5 years in a TA infantry unit, went on several live-firing exercises with mortars, anti-tank missiles, grenades, etc, yet those baby wet-wipe things make me break out in a cold sweat.
I have a phobia for things that fly...birds, moths, butterflies, daddy long legs, bees, wasps etc. They scare me to death. I also have a phobia for deep sea water. I was hassled into going on a banana boat a couple of years ago and begged the guy to take it easy because falling off would frighten me. He said he would make sure I stayed on but was telling porkie pies because he purposely flipped us up and I passed out from the shock of the water. Naughty man!
i met a girl who was scared of clowns...just a few notes from the 'clown music' (you know the one i mean, right?) was enough to freak her out.
this sounds weird to many people but i've got a real fear of plants. i know theyre alive, but i never really think about it until they move. this fear stems from when watching tv, some petals fell off a plant randomly without it being touched. since then they really creep me out to think of them breathing and moving in the same room as you. ironic really that i work in a garden centre! xx
hehe, balloons aren't too bad. One of my classmates is scared of potatoes and a friend of my mother can't be anywhere near buttons - and she's a care worker :D

rja211077 I'm also scared of clowns, that music doesn't help! Relating to clowns, I'm scared of puppets as well.

My only other phobia is of plug sockets which are switched on but without plugs in :-s

Can't say I'm scared of balloons, but I am petrified of bananas.  If someone is eating one within sight of me I feel sick; the smell, the taste, the texture of them, everything, just makes me throw a whitey and nearly pass out.

As for clowns, yes, definitely.  A friend of mine recently said that the worst thing in the world would be a clown driving an ice cream van because of the eerie tinkly music....*shudder*

Also snails and slugs, but more often than not snails.  If you're out late at night and you step on one that you haven't seen and you hear that sickening crunch. Ew.  Just thinking of the sound is enough to make me want to be sick!

I hate clowns and victorian porcelain dolls. Its because they have such expressionless yet full of expression faces! Clowns are just wrong, i wont go near a McDonalds in case there is a kids birthday party going on and if good old Ronald makes an appearance then someone will have a very traumatic birthday!
I don't like clowns much.  Also, there was a sailor dummy in a glass case at Blackpool, I think, that moved & swayed to some horrible music and used to frighten me to death.  I was staying at a holiday camp when i was 7 and there used to be a bloke who would dress up in a gorilla outfit and suddenly appear in the Ball Room or around the swimming pool and grab people and put them over his shoulder and run off.  I would nearly fall over trying to hide behind my Dad.  I had many nightmares linked to that for quite some time. Why are so many people frightened of spiders?  Does anybody know?

O'My god I'm the same - I thought it was just me!!! I cant stand balloons - as a child I was fine with them but since age 15ish I cant go near them! If someone is blowing one up near me - I have to leave the room! The worst is when a child (baby) has one and they try to bite (dribble) all over it and it makes that noise, ahhhh! Balloons just should'nt be allowed!

Im also petrified of fish, I cant eat fish as I just throw up I also cant go in the sea, Just to look at fish (alive or dead) just makes me feel horrible and I gag! The strangest thing is that I went to florida last summer and swam with dolphins and I was fine with that? But as soon as it came to the tropical fish - I ran a mile!
