Can physiotherapists do medical advice notes?

Just a quick query.

Does anyone know if hospital physiotherapists can write notes of advice for activities which should or shouldn't be undertaken for people if they think it appropriate given their medical conditions?

Eg certain highly physical/heavy duty tasks which should not be done.

they can write whatever notes thay want - whether people take notice of them is another matter

From my experience of physio, they can only give you the exercises and movements that will treat the area. Any exercise that you find hard or troublesome they tell you not to do it, and possible advise an alternative. They usually supply a copy of the exercises to have to do. I would have thought that the GP would be the one to issue notes or instruction advising against certain activities.

Thanks both. It's something I've been finding very physically hard at work which is causing me to be in significantly more pain than usual, it's only every week usually and not part of the main job I do and is making it a bit pointless having some treatment as it just undoes most of the good.

I'm just wondering if that would give me some back up (if I need it, hopefully not) as I'm getting quite stressed over it.

Jenna you need to talk to your occupational health department. A gp can sign folk off for sick leave as a part of the benefits claim system but it is up to individual companies as to what use or notice they take of medical advice from any health professional, including a gp.

Thanks all. In a lot of pain (more than usual) today as I thought so got a meeting at work tomorrow to discuss it. Hopefully will get some progress from that.
