Coronation memories...

We were living in two attic rooms having just returned to Belfast from England. The people who owned the house invited my parents down to watch the coronation on their television which had a screen about the size of a paperback book.
I didn't see any of it until it turned up on Pathé News in the cinema a while later.
Anyone else have memories to share?

We had a party in the school behind our house Sandy. At the tea table I watched a plate of cakes being passed around and wanted, more than anything else in the world, the pink Fondant Fancy. It got closer and closer until the little swine next to me nabbed it. I cried buckets and was taken home. Twelve years later he asked me for a date but I had never forgotten and couldn`t forgive.
Way too young
Bloody hell gness, you certainly know how to hold a grudge. lol
I had mumps so was at home at the time - can remember being absolutely enthralled with the whole pomp and ceremony of it all - have been an ardent Royalist ever since.
Gness, I'm surprised you were around to remember the Coronation. I thought your were more Silver Jubilee vintage!
11mths old on the day,so, not really
;o)
We had a party at the local church hall, with fancy dress competitions in age groups. I won the under 5's dressed as Sir Gordon Richards..............
Was he a jockey crafty. ?
Yes tony................I believe the Queen knighted him that year.
Knighted him that year, did he ride her horses ?.
can't remember what happened at school, or street party, but as we did'nt
have a tv, mums friend across the street, invited us (3) over, and another
family.
The house was a two up two down in the middle of a terrace, cobbled street,
so you can imagine the front room was quite full, there was 5 in her own
family.
A very small black and white screen, in a long freestanding wooden box,
(coffin with a screen) The kids all had to sit on the floor, grownups all stood
behind in a semi circle for the whole performance.
The lady missed a lot of it as she was giving out sandwiches, and cold drinks.

I do have still, must have been from school, a small glass tankard with the
coronation motto on it.
That cheered me Howard. :-(
Tony.......I`m Irish.x
Eccles. A compliment or a comment on my sometimes lack of maturity. :-)
too young, but have silver jubilee photos and cups!
Don't think so tony, I think he won the Derby that year as well...................he's the only jockey ever to be knighted.
Gness, definitely intended as a compliment!
Wasn't Lester knighted, but then lost it?
Righto crafty, I just wondered seeing as he got a knighthood.
Was it somthing to do with the income tax thing, sibton.
Don't thibk so sibton...............he had his OBE taken off him.
Eccles. Thank you! Life in the old girl yet I hope.x

Were we all given or maybe I was bought,a Coronation Crown? When he ran of with the girl from the seaside all my ex, an anti-royal atheist, took with him was my Crown and the Holy Bible. Living with me has a lot to answer for.
