Evil Statins

My GP prescribed me statins about a year ago and they made me ill so he changed me from one type to another. Since I started taking the second lot (Pravastatin) I have been suffering with horrible hip and shoulder pains. I assumed it was early onset arthritis until I saw another doctor who took me off the statins. Hey presto, the pains have gone completely and I can now bounce around like a teenager
The medical profession seem to be divided in opinion as to whether they do any good or not. I will never take them again.

\\\\ I will never take them again.\\\

Right.
oooo, i sooooo thought this said "evil stains", I was almost too scared to open it.

Nice to hear you're bouncing around like a good 'un now though!!

Sqad, you have no idea of the pain I have been in and how crippled they made me feel. Last month I had to go up the stairs on my hands and knees. Ridiculous for a youngster like me.
Mum had same problem but they seem to have found one that suits her...
She's a lot older than you though so probably wouldn't bounce around anyway...

Noooo Boo - I use Vanish powder for those lol
Me neither - I was prescribed on the basis of a couple of dodgy BP measurements (subsequently proved to be "White Coat Hypertension") and 'family history of heart disease' (my dad - who smoked 60 Senior Service a day - I don't smoke).

They made me feel utterly carp - so I binned them, bought my own BP monitor and lo & behold relatively normal BP.

An experiment in mass medication probably over several decades ... who knows what the real outcomes will be ?
That's how I read it too, Boo. Thought it might be a job for Mr. Muscle.
My husband went on to statins in January and he has had no side effects whatsoever. Perhaps, some suit some people and not others. I'm sure that if you need statins, you should take them. Perhaps you should try some others.

Dave, I've heard of lots of side effects of statins but not the one that makes you feel like a carp.
It sounds fishy to me
If I spell it correctly it would then say "utterly broccolli" which is even weirder ...
You can say crap if you want.
... well stap my vitals & call me a haddock - I thought it was on the naughty list ...
I had to look up what Statins were! lol

I think my mum was taking those a few years ago and she was getting pains as well. She's stopped them now though.
same as you, mrs_o. But there might be other statins that would have worked better.
Statins are very over-prescribed especially given the side effects many people experience. Like you Mrs O, my mother-in-law was told to take statins and she had a dreadful time, with almost constant symptoms of indigestion. Finally she just stopped taking them and immediately felt much better. Given that she is 83 and her cholesterol wasn't very high, it seemed strange to me that her GP prescribed them in the first place. The drug companies are making a lot of money on these - with very little evidence of clinical benefit to most people!

My BP is fine and my cholesterol was never that bad. (I'm waiting for blood results to see wha it is at the moment).
At least I can now start playing sport again, yipee!
Question Author
The first ones I was prescribed caused constant indigestion and nausea
Mr Overall will be pleased ... ;)

lol
I remember when my late Mum started taking statins - she always had pains in her legs, we just thought it was arthritis, even though she had never had it.

I also am convinced they contributed towards my Mum's onset of dementia, but thats just my opinion.

I am supposed to be on them but won't take them because of that reason. My reading is 7.1 but will take my chances.
p.s. I also thought the heading said 'evil stains' hahaha - thought old Harrison had been a bit over zealous with the whip Mrs. O. (:o((
