I am a foreigner working and living in London.
I find it very difficult to get to know anyone decent.
I tried gumtree but nobody turns up.I work in an environment that is
not conducive to meeting new people (Mental Health Hospital).
Would that be possible for you to recommend how I can make friend
cos I am at the end of my tether.

Hello Bart,

What about enrolling at an evening class in something you are really interested in?  You will find people you have something in common with and should make new friends pretty quickly.

If you are interested in Art or Music go to some concerts or join a Theatre Club.  Joining clubs etc. will give you a new circle of friends.

I hope you find a new group of friends soon.  Did you have any luck in finding a house to buy?

Hi thanks

No chances of me buying a house as I am too poor to get a loan.

If you can find a pleasant, local pub and get a job there two or three evenings a week, you would at least get to know a lot of faces.  Not a bar or a club - but the sort of place where the same people pop in and out of on a regular basis for a quiet drink.
Hi bartholomew, there is a website called faceparty..... you can get to know people on there and chat and possibly make great friends with.  My friend swears by the site and she has made a few good friends from there.  Its worth a go, good luck.
I have to agree with FP and say that joining a club of something that you're interested in is a good idea, for example, if you like birdwatching, drinking real ale (not lager) or support a football club.

I also like Mrs.Puddings idea of working in a pub.

Or how about taking up a new hobby, eg ballroom/latin american dance?

Hi batholomew. At the end of this message there is a link to a group called NewAnswerbook. We are all friends of answerbank. Don't be put off that it is classed as an adult site, that is just for legal reasons. We are a diverse group from all over the world but predominately The UK. Better friends you could never make and you will be welcomed warmly.

Don't know why that hasn't worked. Are there new rules on here with regard to links?
