Drinking tonic water during pregnancy

Is it safe? I drink quite a lot of it (maybe a litre a day as I love the stuff) and my mum has sent me a couple of links from google that suggest it might not be safe. I do know though that midwives advise quinine as a cure for leg cramps in pregnancy but I was wondering if they prescribe it or just advise pregnant mums to drink tonic water.

Thanks

No big deal.....if you are pregnant and feel like drinking a litre of tonic water a day...............then go ahead.

Thanks. I was thinking that as long as there is nothing on the NHS foods-to-avoid website it would be ok. Am gutted I have to give up my daily tin of tuna though :-(
Tuna! For God's sake ........it will due you good during pregnancy.

What will the modern pregnant woman come up with next?
May I ask, why give up tuna?
The risk of mercury in tuna due to sea pollution.
hc4361......naah!.........mercury is very low in Tuna.

The NHS website advises to limit tuna to 2 cans a week! It also advises limiting, salmon, trout, mackerel, herring, sardines and pilchards as they contain pollutants such as dioxins and PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls).

I dunno, I guess it's best to be on the safe side.
I thought most salmon at least was farmed. How do they get PCBs then?
Farmed salmon is the worst of the lot! Swimming round in concentrated salmon poo all day, getting flabby.
i think there is a portion limit on fish, but not a ban!

don't know how we all survived though ...
Cath, food was far more natural 'back in the day'. Fish wasn't farmed, seas weren't toxic.

And never forget that the rate of live births has increased a lot over the last 70 years.
I drank gallons of tonic water when I was pregnant and no harm done.
I did drink the sugar free stuff, though.
My favourite concoction was tonic water and grapefruit juice...got through gallons of that too....cannot imagine drinking it now, though.
You can take, but It should not effect on your pregnancy... The Tonic should be doctor prescribed.
