I don't feel sick, nor am I sweating. The pain lasts for about two minutes and then subsides. It feelshot inside my chest.

Have you not long eaten? It could be acid heartburn
Have you ever had this before? Is the pain going down your arms (particularly the left arm)? Have you just eaten anything and does it feel like a "constricting" pain or a feeling of tightness around the chest? Do you suffer from any condition such as angina?
Question Author
Haven't eaten since lunchtime. Beans on toast. That's all I've had today and cups of tea..
What do you mean by your throat constricting? Do you mean a burning sensation?
If you're worried (and by yourself) ring NHS Direct for advice.
Question Author
No, no pain in my arms.
How old are you and have you ever had this before?
heartburn? have a drink of milk and see if that eases the pain.
Question Author
I'm 59 and no, this has not happened before. It seems to be easing off now except I now have a headache.
It could be wind, it can be a terrible pain (and you have eaten beans)... however, if you are worried, please do ring NHS Direct. Ifyou fear you may be having a heart attack, it does manifest itself differently in women than in men, and you'd be foolish to ignore it. Don't stay posting on here - give them a ring, 0845 4647 - do it now.
^^ ditto
Exactly boxtops - please ring Tilly............now. And let us know the outcome please.
Well, I would try not to worry and you`re not sweating (are you pale/grey in colour)? but if this was me, I would investigate further. I would be inclined to go to A&E if I could. Certain types of pains in chests should be investigated and not ignored. I hope I`m not being too dramatic and Sqad doesn`t tell me off but that is what I would do. I`m sure you`ll be fine and don`t worry.
I don't want to be alarmist but http://www.hearthealt...rt-disease-signs.html
Tilly, that doesn't sound like the pain of a heart attack. It certainly sounds like acid regurgitation and if you have some gaviscon or other antacid, then take a "slug" Give it another 15mins and if it hasn't gone, then get someone to take you to A&E.

Thanks to all of you for your concerns and advice last night. I feel a bit better now although my chest and throat are still 'tight'. I will go to the doctors on Monday.
do you have a walk-in centre near you, Tilly, where you could pop in, rather than waiting another two whole days to see the doc? Did you ring NHS Direct?
Question Author
I don't know of any walk in centre nearby boxtops. I'll investigate.
I didn't ring NHS direct as the comments led me to believe it was indigestion.

This morning, I did read the link you sent me. I definitely need to get checked out, I think.

I will ring NHS direct this morning. I suppose that they will advise going down to A&E.
Good luck - let us know!
Tilly, may I recommend that you take two aspirin six bags of potato puffs and a wagon wheel .'-) hope you feel better soon.
