When I am in charge of all the theatres in the world I will ban sweet paper rustling and decapitate people who talk throughout performances.

Thank you HK. Tonight I restrained myself and only smacked the man in front on the head with my programme
Lol...I thought you were about to complain about TV show audiences that clap and cheer so loud you can't hear the act.
What did you see gness? Did you enjoy it otherwise?

Write to the theatre and suggest they stop selling the noisy sweets, that would be a start.
Totally agree...can't stand it!...people rustling sweet rappers (not the singing type) crisp bags etc., I find I'm concentrating on them and not the production, need a rewind button! lol
I stopped going to concerts for that very thing ummmm, I'd paid to see the artist not the backside of the person in front jiggling about. Also gets me when the audience hear the first few bars of a song thats just been announced and they start clapping and screaming and shouting, missing the first bit.. Or are they clapping themselves for being clever and recognising the song ?

Wednesday...Under Milkwood
Thursday....She Stoops To Conquer
Tonight.....Pirates of Penzance
Just one of those weeks. Nothing for ages now.
Wed and Thurs were super audiences but tonight was awful.I still enjoyed the performance.
I spoke to the theatre manager during the interval and he offered to find me a quieter seat. Probably in the field over the back.
Don`t get me started on TV ummmm!
I don't go to mainstream cinemas much as they tend not to show the sort of stuff that interests me. Mostly I go to the Edinburgh Filmhouse where the audiences tend to be there to actually watch the film.
One problem I have is that the soundtracks are all played far too loud for me, and my hearing is not all it was.

Bumpkin. I went to see Joan Baez last month. Oh! The premature clappers. We all know her songs. Some of us want to hear them. Maybe I will provide big mittens too when I run the theatres.
The worst experience I had was at a cinema and sitting behind was a family and the mother was directly behind me nursing a toddler. The child obviously thought my ear was a receptacle for it's dummy and spent most of the time trying to ram it in. When I eventually complained I was told "he's bored "!

HK. I only go to the cinema for NT Live now. Popcorn, bl99dy great tubs of popcorn! And yes....the sound!!!!
Oh dear! The word grumpy is springing to mind.
not grumpy, fed up.. cinema is just as bad, why do people go to the movies and talk through the entire film, it's pointless and very irritating. Went to an open air concert once, classical music at kenwood. And fine but for the effin people, who couldn't sit still for 5 minutes, clinking glasses, rustling food wrappers, and chatting away, why go, i couldn't hear much of the music, and decided not to go again, which was a shame as they did have some very good music events.
bensmum, oh we can complain, our national pastime the weather, not good, too hot, too wet, cold, and so forth, we should have an Olympics for complaining, we would win hands down.
sorry wrong thread....
I can just remember silent films and the noise from people reading out loud the subtitles for their friends who couldn't read was incredible.....and of course they had to shout over all the others shouting....you wouldn't hear a nuclear explosion ne'er mind a crisp bag :-))
It doesn't happen at opera houses. Audiences wouldn't dare!
naomi, no they wouldn't. However my o/h at the time and i were at The Met in NY, and the auditorium was so hot everyone were nodding off, including both of us. The air con didn't work, or they didn't have any at the time, shame as we were watching La Traviata one of my favourite operas.
