i have discovered, in a painful way that the skin on my heels has hardened to a point where it's cracking and split. What can i use on my poor feet to stop this from getting worse, and how can i get this split to heal up without putting on a plaster. I must say it makes walking quite painful.

I used Scholl cracked heel repair cream. Visible results in 3 days it says on the box. I found it great from day one.

any suggestions, as need some pointers as to getting me back on my feet.....
In Boots they have lots of things for hard skin

I would pop into there and get myself (already have) a hard skin scraper that looks like a large emery board on a long stick. You'll know what I mean when you see it =)
Soak feet in warm soapy water and rub heels, then moisturise really well with cream. Doesn't have to be especially for hard skin on the feet, Nivea would work well, then put socks on. Cotton socks, not nylon ones
You can repeat daily, preferable at or near bedtime
It may take some weeks to clear completely but you'll notice a difference within a few days

This is very much like mine and a pretty good price as well

thank you, didn't realise that the skin around my heels and underneath had got so bad, not until one started hurting, ouch.

Was going to say scholl one too!!

And also boots sell little socks you fil with moisturiser ....suppose any socks would work really- sit for a while
Or even wear to bed and drench ur poor feet in moisturiser.......

Those ped-eggs work a treat too for filing off dry skin xxx
Question Author
that looks just the thing, do i need anything else apart from the cream.
em10, I didnt do anything else at all except apply the cream. It worked brilliantly.

thank you i will get some today. I think the cut or crack in the skin has got a little worse, so hope this helps. It's quite painful for a little cut
You can get a cream from Sainburys pharmacy (Not their own brand name) called Heal Balm... very good for what you describe. My wife had very thick pads of hard skin on her heals due mainly to her immobility, I used it in conjunction with a scraper, like a long wide thin spatula with emery/glass paper on both sides shaped like an obese hour glass - worked a treat inside a week there was noticable difference...just be carefull tho' do it slowly and in stages or you will get extremely sore feet and be hobbling about

Oh yes, dont use a plaster unless it is bleeding
Feet recover surprisingly quickly, and once you've sorted the problem out, after your shower each day, give them a rub with the emery board type thing that OJ suggested, and cream them morning and night. Don't miss a day. Feet are often neglected, but to keep them nice, they need to be looked after just as much as faces.
I use Compeed cracked heel cream...twice a day until it improves and then once a day...as Naomi says you must keep on using the cream every day as a prevention.
